  1. I would LOVE to post a video response to this article...Can we do this here?

  2. Put together something Macker, and email me it. Worst case is that I can only put it up and link it, best case is I can make it run.

  4. Not off topic really but anyone else catch the back and forth with Cheney and Biden?
Anyway,Want i want to say is how much I love the fact that Now that “The Big Dick” is retired he is getting all his licks in whenever he wants and I can tell he’s having a blast doing it. If you ever got let go by an employer and let them have it with both barrels before walkin out the door you should know what I mean. Ol GW is doin the quiet Bush family thing and splittin logs in crawford but Dick the Dick is Letting none of the clown shoes off the hook for practicing “Stupid is as Stupid does”.
I think there should be a Nobel for Political Payback and Cheney be the first nominee.
    Just Sayin.

  5. Actually Rich - Ol GW is living the cushy life in an upscale (i.e. gated) Dallas suburb - probably goes down to Crawford NOT. I am not sure - he did seem to like it while there, so maybe he does once in a while.

I have a vested interest in this starting soonest - my son is deploying (thought it was yesterday, alas a mis-communication) - I would have called if I had known last night. Anyway, I hope that he can deal with this new crappy ROE - stupid - We should have done a major shock & awe on both Iraq & Afghanistan back in the 3 weeks that everyone in America was still in shock - would have done a much better job of ‘getting it started’ and what the heck would it have mattered - they still ‘blame Bush’ for everything - real and imagined.

The longer we get past the ‘Bush years’ - the more I realize he wasn’t the best he could have been. Stepped too far left and left a huge crack in the door that this socialist is marching right on thru.

God Help America - and keep our Troops Safe.

  7. OCM is half right. Even with second rate equipment, poorly trained troops, and officers who were better at political compliance than leadership, and no ROE at all, Russia did just fine ... as an invasion force.

It was only when the US shipped the Afghanis crates of our Stinger missiles and other modern gear that the adventure went belly up. And we were smart enough to send them the version of the rockets that won’t shoot at our planes. haha!

You’d have to buy into the Avatar meme to believe that a bunch of nearly stone age locals could defeat a well trained and equipped modern army.

  8. You’d have to buy into the Avatar meme to believe that a bunch of nearly stone age locals could defeat a well trained and equipped modern army.

Actually, it HAS happened. We have the British in Sudan (at least in the early years, prior to Kitchner’s arrival), the Spanish in Morocco, the Russians in Kamchatka, and even a few American defeats regarding the Amerindians.

Naturally, most of those cases involved said Stone Age groups having numerical superiority (especially regarding the British in the Sudan), and they usually were crushed when the second wave came in and took revenge, but it can happen. and some do even better than that.

That being said, it doesn’t happen often, and for very obvious reasons, and Avatar is particularly stupid (the ONLY, and I mean the ONLY reason why the Humans lost was because of the obscene logistical difficulties. Even with absolutely EVERYTHING ELSE- the incompetent leadership, the biological disadvantages, the defectors, the mole, etc, they still would have triumphed save for that. And even THEN they only lost because of a Deus ex Machina with pretty much all the wildlife on Pandora coming down on top of their heads.).

Still, have to be accurate, ja?

  9. Oh yes, I almost forgot:

You can’t win hearts and minds from a populace that has neither. Big waste of time, and it puts our guys in danger. Bad move.

Indeed. It is quite fortunate, then, that that is hardly the case here.

I’m tired of our spineless government wasting our blood and treasure to fight the most minimal possible conflict.

So am I, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is entirely wrong.

Fuck that. Blow the living shit out of everything and anything until there are no more enemies. Then come home.

Such was- and remains- Russia’s Anti-insurgency playbook. And look at what good THAT did them. Needless slaughter only galvanized resistance to their puppets and pushed the Pakistanis and Iranians to be more active than they would have been normally, and probably helped doom the invasion.

If this is how this “necessary war” is to be fought, tuck in your ties and bring our guys home.

Staunch, STAUNCH disagreement. Just because it is being waged ineffectively doesn’t make it any less necessary.

The 5000 years it will take to achieve any semblance of victory this way is not worth the price we will be forced to pay.

Staunch, STAUNCH disagreement. Even if we were to agree that was the timeline, 5,000 years of the Islamists fighting THERE rather than here seems mighty attractive at this juncture, given our current situation and the gains of the enemy so far.

Somebody has sold our side out. And that somebody is probably also a radical leftist.

    True.

So it’s no surprise at all what’s happening. The surge there has been brought to it’s knees, and our troops can’t have confidence that the enemy isn’t running around behind them.

Hardly. Even ISLAMABAD thinks we are winning, albeit slowly (which largely galvanized the Anti-Islamist front we have seen so far), and while we have had some of the surge eaten away, we have hardly been brought to our knees over there. Over here? That remains to be seen.

The absolutely worst approach to asymmetrical warfare is to treat each non-uniformed individual as a civilian until they are within your sight with a weapon and actively shooting in your direction.

No, the worst approach is that of ineffective needless brutality, which not only galvanizes the opposition but stains the soul of this nation and those who took part in it.

No. Anyone and everyone is assumed your enemy until they have proven otherwise multiple time.

And how do we deal with those we assume are our enemies? Shoot them? In that case, they won’t be AROUND to prove themselves multiple times.

And don’t really trust them then. Bribe the locals with food and blankets to rat out the Talis. Draw a line in the sand, so to speak, and let the locals know that the area on this side is under our protection. And that severe consequences will attend anyone who is, or shelters, a Tali fighter. Doing anything other is just setting yourself up for failure.

    Agreed.

Afghanistan is another shit hole like Somalia.

Depends on how you define that.

The world would not give one small fart if the entire population disappeared tomorrow.

I think the Afghanis who have fought and bled alongside us in the hope for a better tomorrow and the Allied soldiers who have become fairly close to the nation they are helping to build might care.

You can not civilize or modernize the people living in either area. At best you can buy them off temporarily. So stop wasting lives, time, and money on this futile effort.

Need I say that people said similar things about Germany and Japan? And by strategic reckoning, no fight is futile so long as one is willing to dedicate enough resources, time, and will to finish it. The question is only if we have the dedication to do so here.

Fight to win with no holds barred, or go the hell home.

Define “No Holds Barred.” Fighting dirty is sometimes necessary, but the Left has already compared us to the SS, KGB, and other charming outfits. Perhaps one of the few things worse than that would be proving them right.

Fight hard, but don’t fight amorally.
