Death and Taxes

  1. They’ll never let it happen. Do you know why?

If the Fair Tax was implemented, the truly wealthy (not the millionaire small business people who pay the bulk of the taxes at the worst rates) would have to pay far more (as things like utilities and services they use would be taxed and they could not escape paying as they do now - no deductions) and the average little person could save a lot of money merely by not spending.

It would kill the banks (who rely on debt spending by the Middle Class to fund the money system).

It would hurt the corporations who rely not only on consumer spending to buy their products but use their clout with politicians to make taxes on the working class onerous enough so they can not easily save. Workers can not effectively put aside for their future (outside of controlled savings plans like the 401K which are subject to company whims and effectively reduce in the presence what they are actually paying to employees) or to allow an unhappy worker in a tight labor pool to push for higher wages. The working class workers are effectively held hostage against bargaining or quitting as they can not long afford to be without a job or risk losing years of savings.

The truth is the IRS and the tax code is unConstitutional as the government was only supposed to ever HAVE sales taxes. So many people of power have conspired to create this system we are hostages and they all have a vested interest in maintaining it. They’ll never let anyone get close to an open court over this and anyone who tries gets thrown into a “legal” system they control and gets thrown UNDER the prison as an example to the rest of us as to who is the masters and who is the slaves.

It is only our guns that keeps them somewhat at bay en mass and as soon as they can disarm us, well there will never be another person from this society who gets any sort of money or power who isn’t beholden to them and you will not be able to recognize America from Orwell’s 1984.

  3. I [we?] are behind that movement! Lead on Mr. C...........It will be tuff but so are we. The Irag’s have a flat/fair tax so they would not be cobbled with a code like ours. They could never progress if the accountants/tax collectors are in charge.

That f**king duck [#1}has it right!!

  4. Little story on the duck.

I picked it because I am a serious fan of Babylon 5 (hence the handle). In B5 there was an alcoholic Security chief named Michael Garibaldi. In the show, on the wall in his quarters was exactly this photo of Daffy Duck.

During one episode of the series, another alien character (played by Billy Mumy - Will Robinson from the original Lost in Space) asked Garibaldi if the photo was one of his household Gods. Garibaldi told him it was “sort of the Egyptian God of Frustration”.

Which I have always thought was an EXACTLY PERFECT thought about life in this world.

  5. You are simply renting it at the pleasure of the government.

The Fair Tax changes nothing. It just changes the method of collection. Would I support it? Yes. It’s better than the current system. In theory, a bunch of IRS jack-booted thugs would be unemployed. But the Fair Tax still maintains Federal revenues at the same level so the Fed can keep pursuing the same unConstitutional functions. Like Medicare, Medicaid, education, AFDC, PBS, NPR, etc. Oh, I forgot Social Security. And the recently vetoed BullSCHIPs program

As for ‘simply renting at the pleasure of the government’, the Fair Tax does nothing to curb property taxes, which are a state or local imposition. Don’t pay your property taxes and see what happens, Fair Tax or no.

But yeah, I’d like to see a bunch of IRS jack-booted thugs unemployed.  beer_drinker

  6. Agreed, Mr. Christian. I actually do support the Fair Tax. IF, and only IF, the 16th Amendment is abolished first. Otherwise we end up with the Fair Tax AND income taxes. Wouldn’t DemoRats love that!

Meanwhile, I support Dick Armey’s Flat Tax. This does not require amending the Constitution. Though why we bother with the Constitution eludes me. Politicians haven’t supported the Constitution since Marbury vs. Madison.
