Dancing On The Edge

  1. Tango is a very sexy, romantic dance. Assuming you’re doing it right. If you’re doing it wrong, then I guess you’d have to resort to a strip tease. What we used to call ‘flash and trash’ when I was a dance instructor.

I wasn’t required to express an opinion; the trio started Blue Tango, Deety melted into my arms. You don’t talk if you know tango.

Deety knew. After an eternity of sensual bliss, I swung her out into position precisely on coda; she answered my bow and scrape with a deep curtsy. “Thank you, sir.”

“Whew! After a tango like that the couple ought to get married.”

“All right. I’ll find our hostess and tell Pop. Five minutes? Front door, or side?”

From Number of the Beast, chapter one, by Robert A. Heinlein

  2. I’m trying to imagine the gentleman doing a ‘bow and scrape’ and the lady responding with a ‘deep curtsy’ after they’ve torn each others’ clothes off.

They did not ‘redefine tango’, they dragged tango down into the pornographic sewer inhabited by Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. No class, no elegance, and, since it was ‘flash and trash’, no dance talent.

The Decline of Western Civilization continues…

  3. Well that’s bullshit.
The good version has been removed from YouLube.
The only one left has the goodies blurred out.
    What’s the world coming to?

  4. ALL dances (ballroom to tango) are merely pre-mating rituals. It’s part and parcel of the preservation of the species.

I learned that in my Psychology/Sociology classes.

  5. Amazing Yankee. You needed a Sociology class to learn that? I learned that at my first mixer dance in 7th grade.

    Still doesn’t explain square dancing.

  6. CBullit - Google is your friend. Other sites have a copy of this, even though YouTube pulled the video. Christopher is right; as dance, it sucks. But leave it to the Argies to “sex up” a dance routine to the point of porn. Next I’m sure we’ll have “DTWTS Brasil” having orgies set to a primal drum beat. Class = none. Ratings = Maximum.

  7. This is what Tango looks like if you do it right. This is Argentine style. No clothes were torn off or damaged during this production.

For the ballroom style I used to teach, there’s this scene from Scent of a Woman starring Al Pacino. He sticks to the basics, but he does them well. No ‘flash & trash’.

  8. Hey Drew, I did the Google thing, and I can’t find this particular ‘pornformance’. I can find “Cinthia Fernandez and her partner Marcelo Tinelli,” all over the place. I thought that DWTS was a pro-am show.

What I find is Cinthia Fernandez and her partner Marcelo Tinelli doing all sorts of different routines of stripping each other. So far, I’ve been unable to identify a ‘dance’ they are supposed to be dancing. Certainly haven’t found anything––musically or otherwise––that resembles tango.

In one video I found, they do a ‘dance routine’ to what sounds like an Aerosmith song I’m unfamiliar with. (sounds like Steven Tyler singing, the rest sounds like Aerosmith’s style). All they do is run around tearing each others clothes off. Then he pantomimes doing her ‘doggy style’.

    Classy. Not!

So I’ve yet to see this DWTS travesty. I could understand if they’d done this as a Samba or Mambo. But Tango?
