I know you have been there for long enough to realise the british no hope socialists dont hide under a benign and innocent name like liberals (the queers do thgough) sorry to hear about your dent, Those Rovers are OK, is it gas or diesel?
It doesn’t matter if the car is brand new or just new to you, that first dent (and there’s always a first, followed by more) really hurts, doesn’t it?
A dent on the door, right under the mirror? That’s a jealousy dent, put there on purpose by a miserable SOB who’s car isn’t as nice as yours.
Once upon a time I was night shift manager for a crew of really sick and petty bastards. I parked my brand new 1983 RS Capri in the lot and found exactly that sort of ding the next morning. Somebody took a shopping cart (a trolly for you Brits) and whammed it into the side. No, it didn’t get there by accident - that was the downhill side in the parking lot.
Because such a dent, you see, is impossible to pull out. It’s in the crease where the front hinge metal for the door is. Only way to fix it is to get a whole new door skin, and that means the paint will never match.
Like I said, it’s a jealousy dent.
Drew, I fix dents for a living, there are all sorts of ways to get them out, in the UK there is a company called “Dent Devils” who ease them out nearly invisably without breaking the paint.
Peiper & Drew: Might be worthwhile to give Chris’s suggestion a try.
And I’ve seen some pretty amazing paint-matches done by careful body shops. Find out what equipment and processes they use to match colors, and ask if they can match your color perfectly. I saw one shop local to me color-match a 3 year old green reflective paint that I didn’t think could be matched. It was utterly perfect, even the pinstriping they did perfectly matched the rest of the body.
Find one of those types of body shops, and you won’t be worrying about a color-match.
Best of luck you two. Retired Curmudgeon is dead-on. That first dent hurts.
Chris, It’s gas. Don’t much care for the other.
Good advice Chris. JayD Rover had a big problem with head gaskets but it is supposed to have been rectified in 2001 engines. Hope yours is one of the later batch. Whenever I hear of a head gasket failure my first thought is “Rover”
Some late teen girl backed into my car last month and dented the fender pretty good. She left the scene of course. However, another person saw it and told me when I went to leave the house. The girl came back and it’s all taken care of. She was aware that she hit my car. I could have filed a hit and run police report, but chose not to. No problem getting it fixed.
About broke the arm of some punk teenager who was keying a different car of mine some years ago. Little bastard didn’t see me sitting in it and ran a key all the way to the front door. I waited and opened the door fast enough to knock him down. Arrogant little S*@% called me all sorts of names while we waited for the police to haul him off. I don’t think I raised my voice once at him. I don’t suppose the 60 days in juvenile hall was enough to fix his attitude.
