It should be noted that LeClerc’s forces fought in North Africa along “Monty’s"troops. Much to Monty’s amazement, LeClercs men were brave, and skilled fighters. Monty was outright impressed by him-and Monty wasn’t exactly a fraco-phile.

German General Dietrich von Choltitz...Choltitz dutifully began laying explosives under Paris’ bridges and many of its landmarks, but disobeyed an order to commence the destruction. He did not want to go down in history as the man who had destroyed the “City of Light"--Europe’s most celebrated city.
I love these little history posts by Allan. This German general should be considered a hero. Just another bit of what my old girlfriend called ‘usless knowledge’. Which is why she is an old girlfriend and not my wife.
Allan, you might like to know that I went to work and asked everyone who participates in our political ‘dialogue’ to name the one and only sitting President that excercised his Commander-in-Chief powers on the battlefield. No one got it right… though the one guy that is retired from the Dayton Daily News guessed that it was the President during the war of 1812. But he couldn’t name said President.
I’m awaiting the ‘Barking Moonbat’ edition of Trivial Pursuit.
