    Or lack there of.

    Ireland suffer from the very same government justice system illness. It costs money to jail someone. So there is a legal triage set up:

    1) Rape, assault, personal injury gets mostly probation because those offences are a government money loser (cost of jail, jail staff, food etc.)

    2) Cheating on tax returns, failure to obtain government licenses and to pay various taxes do get jail time to make an example of someone who is withholding the precious money from government coffers.

    The system is used as a punishment tool to cause pain to those who withhold money from government.

    But assault or harm another punter? No big deal.

  2. Ok, maybe I can see the second one. MAYBE. With half a year or more of required psychotherapy and anger management classes.

    The first? Take the child away to protective services and then BURN THEM AT THE STAKE.
