  1. Drew, Sorry to learn all that re. the cough and rest.
I really can relate to the cough, which is why I was banging the drum so often over Codeine Linctus.  Yeah ... the gut and the ribs and all the rest. It would even wake me up in the middle of the night.  Thing about a cough too is, it tends to really piss one off as in really angry. But we can’t punch ourselves cos that wouldn’t work.  Of course, not having tried punching myself I wouldn’t know if it works or not, but would not think it does.
So anyway ... you might recall a couple of years ago, no more than that, when I was complaining of coughing. But I tell ya Drew that Codeine (liquid) just stops the cough in its tracks. It took me awhile to convince doctor to allow me to have it so often, they worry about addiction but F*** that. What’s the alternative?  Cough all night? So they relented and allow me refills. Which they aren’t really happy with.  In my case, I have a very peculiar stomach condition which they found to be the base cause of the coughing problem. For which I must take 2 Omeprazole daily. It has helped greatly but there are times when the coughing starts and won’t stop and so I reach for the liquid Codeine (Linctus). The stuff just works. Why suffer as described?
    Off topic but curious.
On your weather strip to the right.
Alexandria TWP?  What’s the twp for?
Yikes!  19 degrees? Is that right?
    Crivens.

OK ... back to nasty routine, prepping for tomorrow’s exam. Just got the call.Upstairs.
    Later. Take care of yourself.

  2. Forgot to ask ...

Can you get PG Tips tea in your area?  Specifically ....
    PG TIPS (RICH)

Because of my upcoming medical thing tomorrow, yesterday and today I am not allowed any milk (along with some other things)and my instructions are tea or black coffee is okay but no milk.  I could not imagine tea minus the milk but ... I thought what the heck. Try it and dump it if I don’t like the taste. Well, what a surprise. I’m allowed small amounts of sugar, and only use the very tip of the tea spoon, hardly any really but enough so it isn’t too bitter. Now I’m hooked. I really like it.

Last year or maybe the one before, PG Tips introduced something called PG Rich. We had been using the stronger version of PG and decided to give the (Rich) a try.  The first cup I made seemed weak and tasteless. Almost ready to return the box. Then got the idea, don’t know why I thought of it, but now just as the water starts to simmer I toss in the tea bag and stir and bring to the boil. Looks like ink but that’s quite deceiving cos it comes out to our taste and we’ve been buying it ever since and going through quite a bit of it.
I know different ppl have different tastes, you may not like it at all.  But as soon as I can get into town or the next village and a post office, which might be next week sometime, I’ll mail you a box. See what you think.

  3. Re: Tea for health - honey - just put some local raw honey in it. Does a body good - as local and raw helps the body with local allergens.

For cleaning just about anything with tea/coffee stains - denture clean tablets. I buy the super size store brand. One in a hot water soak for at least 20 minutes. Maybe a swipe with a brush (if really dirty) and then a solid soap and water wash, the not so dirty ones, I just toss into the dishwasher.

We have become overrun with tea too - Chocolate, Mint, some Afternoon thingy and a Women’s Energy that I happen to love but can’t seem to find much anymore. But our usual is GFS tea - huge box and we just brew a carafe full. Lazy yes, but it works with 3 tea drinkers here 24/7/winter time.

No snow but we started out in the mid-twenties and it’s already down to 10 degrees. Yeah - this week is going to be so much fun.

  4. I’m going back to the doctor’s I think. I will ask about codeine cough syrup.

If the weather widget says it’s 19 here, that means we’re having a warming trend. It has been in the low teens, down to the negative single digits, almost constantly since Christmas. This is one damn cold winter, and we’ve still got 2 months or more to go.

“TWP” stands for Township. Here in Weird NJ, we have towns, boroughs, and townships. After living here for only 16 years, I still don’t understand it. The Town of Clinton is not in Clinton Township, although Lebanon Borough may be. And while it says Clinton on my postal address, whatever local tax money there is goes to Union Township. I think NJ also has unincorporated areas ... all just different forms of local government. Confusing.

I have never seen PG-anything tea in my life. Google says I can find it at specialty markets, but that’s it. Most regular tea sold in America is crap. Floor sweepings from 20 years ago I think; I can go get a small box of any variety of loose tea (Thomas J. Lipton company, which I swear is a whole other brand!) from any Indian grocery store and it will have 10 times the life in it.

“I could not imagine tea minus the milk but” ... really?? I am having a hard time imaging tea with milk. Or (gak?!?) tea with lemon?? My regular cup of coffee is nearly espresso, so I rarely use anything but a bit of sugar.

The best cuppa tea I ever had was to take about a quart of water and boil it up in a stainless steel pot, then pretty much fill a 2” diameter steel mesh tea ball with Twining’s English Breakfast loose tea, cover and simmer for about 4 minutes. A small bit of sugar in a 12oz mug, and that tea was like rocket fuel. For 5 minutes I felt I understood the whole Tea Thing ... it was much softer drinking than coffee, and the caffeine rush was fierce and immediate. I couldn’t say if I made that pot regular strength ( 2 flattish tsp per 12oz mug ) or not, but the loose whole leaf tea tasted 20 times richer than the stuff we get here in bags.

  5. No Drew. Don’t simply ‘think’ about seeing the doc. Gosh. Do it. Never safe to ignore whatever it is that bit you.

Cough medication. Most Rx for cough (liquid) have Codeine as its base. It suppresses the cough reflex I guess.  I don’t know what the Linctus is cos I haven’t researched it yet. Just hasn’t been in the forefront of my thinking.
Jenn doesn’t like most if not all meds that are liquid. So generally avoids or asks her doc for pill form.  With the exception of the cough med I use. She had a problem also, found mine worked for her even though she hates the taste. Which I don’t think is all that bad.
So now she has her own Rx from her doctor.

  6. Codeine might well be too weak to have any positive effect at this point.  If so, ask your doctor about a cough syrup with hydrocodone (Vicodin) in it.  That will almost assuredly quiet your chest cough and let you sleep for a few hours at a time (which is the goal.) Sleep as much as you can.
