  1. It’s a forbiiiiden woooord Drew! Beware, because you may irritate people if you say, write or even think.. The Word. Oh, right, unless you happen to be part of the race, group or organization that it’s targeted upon.
The word, which for the purposes of making sure I don’t have it wrong, is “nigger”.
Yes, the word is offensive, yes, it is an ‘ugly’ word, and Yes, it is used more now by members of the race it was used to insult, even though it is a corruption of ‘negro’ by the mush mouthed sons of the South in the 18th and 19th century. What amazes me is how the word is used more by the people it is supposed to hurt than those who originally used it, especially when they are so damn self-conscious about how they are enumerated on the census. African American? Colored? Black? Negro? THEY DON’T KNOW THEMSELVES!
Raise your hands if you are nervous about how to describe a black person in everyday life to another black person.
It’ll lock your brain up at times…
As far as I know, it is now their word. I know few people who use it in everyday life unless something traumatic happens which involves a darker colored member of the human race, or they hang around with people normally who stand in front of rural gas stations chewing tobacco and chatting about the chances that it’ll rain some time in the next week.
(6 guys with 8 teeth among them, want to talk stereotype?)
This is one of the things (almost said ‘we’) they need to get over. As long as they playfully call each other names, others will take it as an invitation. As long as they keep the word alive with actions as well as words, it will hang around like an in-law after you won the lottery.
    It will become another anachronism.

  2. I keep reading these type of articles calling it the “n-word” and just shake my head.  For me, it boils down to this:  I’m an adult, I’m not (nor should I be) afraid of mere words.

  3. Actually Dr Deth - it is a variation of many of the words for Negros - look at the languages (and I know I will get attacked for this - look at the words brought to America from Africa) - many slide very close to nigger. Thus it’s usage. Originally. I suspect that some stupid liberal intentionally used it as a slur and thus it began the drumming to beat it into the heads of a victim class that it is a slur - not a actual word to mean what they actually are - Black.

As to the lawsuit - in the context of the staff meeting - I am shocked that this happened (the firing) as it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cultural or not - if you are going to bury certain words - bury them for all - or this is the result. Also not mentioning it here - but whose the snitch at the tv station who went to the Philly Daily Press. Isn’t this where the NBPP intimidated voters & got away with it?? Wow - remind me never to go to Philly. Ever.

If the blacks don’t get suspended/fired for it - the white shouldn’t - most especially in the context that this happened.

God Help America & most especially Philly.
