Congress to Bush: $30 Billion? Ha! Make it $50 Billion

50 billion over 5 years is 10 billion per year. 300 million US citizens ... that’s $33.34 each per year, to bring hope and change to the po’ and starvin. Phew, for a couple of seconds I thought this would amount to some real money.

  1. Most of the money is expected to be spent in Africa.

Talk about a black hole to throw money down <sigh>.
RE gold plating, wonder how many more two bit African despots will have their AK’s
gold plated with this American largesse ? (cf, Lord of War)

  2. I have some questions that I am sure someone will answer in this comments section.  Are we the only ones throwing money at Africa?  If no, then who else is?  HJow much are they giving?  (in terms of dollars and/or amount of GNP?  What is Africa itself doing to help with this problem?  Are any of these other countries that are giving of arab decent?

I have heard that man originated from Africa and that one of the first great cities was in Africa (I think it was Alexandria).  Considering that man has occupied Afica the longest and that Africa, from what I understand, is quite rich in resources.  Why is it appear to me to be one of the largest sh*tholes in the world.  America has developed into the greatest country in the world in the span of a few hundred years.  Africa has had thousands of years to get its act together and it still can’t hold a candle to any civilized country.  Even if we go back 100 years, it still seems that America in 1900 was more advanced than Africa is today.  I agree with Kim, it’s time to cut and run.  If we want to give large sums of our money away, surely there is another country that would do better if given the same opportunity and money that has been given to Africa.  As a side note...since I know very little about these things, what third world countries would actually have the best chance of becoming a great country if given what Afica has been given?  Any opinions?

Thank you in advance for your opinion.  I promise to come back and read all of your entries and thoughts.  Expecially yours Kim if you happen to read this, as you are certainly more worldly than myself and I would like to hear your opinion.

  3. Well, Sdkar, the thing about Africa being the birthplace of mankind, and population migration and all that, is that the folks with a yearning for something new, better, and different all moved out. Starting thousands of years ago. So perhaps the people left there are descended from the ones with little drive to make things better.

  4. Yes but Steve, you only say that because you’re an evil rich white person who wants to kill off all the blacks.

Ain’t it amazing how I can spot your skin color, even read your bank balance, from way over here?

  5. I personally hope a large portion of the $9 bill to ‘fight malaria’ is spent on the best way to fight malaria....

You know, spraying towns with DDT!
