  1. If they want to build a “shining city on a hill” down there, the least they could do is build the hill first.

But they will not, of course, although we taxpayers will doubtless pay enough to erect an entire chain of mountains.

And speaking of that, I think you may safely bet that for every dollar that goes into actual reconstruction, at least one other dollar will be pocketed by someone who has suspiciously little to do with the reconstruction.

    A boondoggle indeed, Skipper.

    hmmm

  2. Right Tan, and not just graft, “perverse incentive”.  With federally subsidized flood insurance we encourage folks to build in dumb places.  Their business of course, IF they are the ones who pay for it.

Entirely different matter, but remember that after 911 “W” gave billions to NY City for rebuilding. He got, what(?) 20% of the NYC vote?

Plus, that Medicare Drug Plan won over the Democrats BIG TIME, right????? shit shit shit shit shit

  3. To repeat myself: That sound you hear isn’t rain, it’s Louisiana politicians salivating at the thought of all that money coming their way.

  4. OCM: also review the destruction of Les Halles section of Paris by the hideous boondoggle they built on the site.  It was such a useless ugly piece of shit that they immediately tore it down.

By those same wonderful people who brought you public schools

  5. Dude.

So the corruption that inevitably will come about from this big fat boondoggle will be the fault of the Democrats?  Even though Republicans control the House, Senate, Presidency, and thus the purse strings?  Corruption isn’t limited by party labels and last I heard, Republican connected firms were being favored in the reconstruction of New Orleans.  Not to defend the Democrats, but come on!

There will be a ton of corruption on every level here.

  6. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> toilet toilettoilettoilet

Get it?  And the Rebublicans won’t succeed in buying a single vote.

And I never thought that gov’t corruption knows party boundaries.

  7. I gotta say I like the collection of smileys here at this site.

  8. It’s been about about two weeks since the levee broke, and the LA. Dems have a plan.  Seems to me the D-Day plan took about two years to develop and execute, so I wonder how good this one week wonder plan is?  There’s not yet even an accounting of the total destruction of homes, the number of businesses that can’t open, the businesses that can open shortly, the location and contact information for all the people are that scattered to the four winds and what are their circumstances and needs, how many will return to the stricken areas, what specific infrastructue repairs are needed, priorities for all of this, what resources sre available, etc.

They may have compiled a list like I just enumerated and given it a name, but that’s not enough for me to start writing checks.

They’ve had just enough time to open Cayman bank accounts and that’s about all.

  9. Why would you keep the number of the FBI handy?? You come up with some valid evidence of Democrapic corruption and you call the FBI and you’re liable to get arrested for it!! Call the FBI if it’s Bill trying to rape your sister or Hillary scamming your cousin on a land deal and you will probably end up being found in a creek face down somewhere. Sweet Jesus, don’t ever call the FBI if it involves Commiecrat corruption.

Republican corruption, business corruption, white men with guns, someone not paying the f**king pirates in Washington their tribute (taxes), Christians bashing Hillary or gays in their churches, somebody with glaucoma rolling a joint so he can stand the pain, or some white guy getting sick of wetbacks trashing his property crossing the border...then you call the FBI on the miscreants.

Also, don’t ever call to report Arab terrorists either. If you call the FBI and have evidence of something amiss all you are going to get is days of interrogations...first on how you came by this info and then on your insensitivity to Moslems. This will be follwed by death threats from same said Moslems!!

Do we understand eachother here??!!!! skull

    Bye, bye Government Pie,
    The levy was wet,
    But the Treasury was dry,

  11. I didn’t name any party. I specifically said “Louisiana politicians”. Check the history of the state, particularly since the salad days of Huey Long. Nowhere else are so many politicos either in jail or under indictment. I believe that a previous governor is spending the rest of his life as a guest of the government along with an impressive retinue which includes members of his family. I believe one of his campaign bumper stickers read: “Vote for the Crook”. The worse part is that the people there did vote for the crook.

Corruption is so rampant in Louisiana that it is expected. Blaming the President and Congress for giving them the money is certainly disingenuous.

Note that governonr Blano is already assigning companies to be favored with contracts. One of them is The Shaw Group Inc. Their CEO isn’t busy enough running his company, he’s also Chair of the Louisiana Democratic Party. Nope, nothing to see here, move along, really. It’s all Bush’s fault. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain levee.

  12. True, StinKerr:  Looziana does it with a panache that Chicago can only compete with in size.

My Motto: Boys will be boyswhen it’s not my money!
This time it is my money.  My sense of fun has evaporated.  cool mad

  13. OCM:  Not in this case.  Nuking N.O. would only increase the bowl-below-sea-level problem. monkey  bomb  skull

  14. if the 3 stooges(mayor, governor, senator) have any say in contracts and monies spent....it will pretty much operate like the *New Orleans Levee Board*
