  1. Just curious - have you considered planting in containers (whiskey barrels, etc.)? Or is that also verboten by the POA gestapo?

  2. Anything smaller than a half barrel will probably roast the roots in the summer sun. Flower pots ARE allowed, but they can’t be attached or hung from railings. And you can’t screw any hanging arms into the side of the building.

It won’t be a surprise if my plan get nixed. I’ll just set the stones in on end, halfway deep. That will still give me almost 6” of stone above ground, enough to hold back a decent depth of topsoil. I just wanted to make it really special, that’s all.

  5. Why was it you chose to live in a condominium again?  Are the trade-offs worth it for having to deal with the pencil-pushing, dust-sniffing yahoos?

  6. Because we could afford to live here. Any actual house in our affordability bracket was a shit-dump.

I task you with looking up and getting a feel for Hunterdon County NJ real estate. The prices around here are crazy. And once you’ve finally landed a B5,000 mortgage, you can happily pay $14,800 per year in property taxes. What we paid for this 1100 sq ft condo would buy a 3000sq ft house in Vestal NY, and the taxes would be 1/3 as much.

And it’s only a tiny bit better across the border into PA. A tiny bit. Thia is NJ” there are no winners.

  7. > Because we could afford to live here.

Fair enough, Drew.  One does what one has to, before what one wants to.  Soldier on.
