    I have no idea how common the du Toit name is in South Africa. It may be their version of Smith; it may be rarer than hen’s teeth. Perhaps this guy was an uncle, perhaps he’s no relation at all.

    It sounds like this fellow did his part in the war, and then some. Good man.

    I hope for their sakes that where they are going is a better place than what is down here.

    PS: As for the du Toit name, it is probably Dutch/Afrikaner, and might not be their version of “Smith”, but more like their version of “O’Malley”, nothing veryvveryvery common, but common enough.
