Colonel “Rosy” du Toit, one of South Africa’s outstanding wartime fighter pilots dies age 90.

 

1. One by one the old soldiers pass.

   I have no idea how common the du Toit name is in South Africa. It may be their version of Smith; it may be rarer than hen’s teeth. Perhaps this guy was an uncle, perhaps he’s no relation at all.

   It sounds like this fellow did his part in the war, and then some. Good man.

2. Sad. Another one passes us by.

   I hope for their sakes that where they are going is a better place than what is down here.

   PS: As for the du Toit name, it is probably Dutch/Afrikaner, and might not be their version of “Smith”, but more like their version of “O’Malley”, nothing veryvveryvery common, but common enough.
