  3. So the spirit of Vichy lives on?  I would have been surprised had things been otherwise.

    French spirit died on the Western Front with the Nivelle offensive in 1917.  It was then embalmed by Maginot, interred by Petain and Laval, and given a torch for its tomb by De Gaulle.

    We measure its decomposition by such men as Chirac.
