  1. No, until their rights expire unnoticed and in silence. Because it was too much effort to go to the polls on election day. Because thinking for yourself is hard; better to just go along with popular wisdom. Because they were willing to lose a little here, a little there, for “safety” and “security”, and another handout from the gov. After all, it isn’t their money, so who cares? Because certain rights, actions, and expressions make them “uncomfortable”, and they have a right not to be upset or insulted, oui?

Sure, its easy being a sheep. Nice grass, comfortable pen, shepards and sheepdogs to watch over you. But at the end, there’s always the butcher.

  2. That horrible story about the Connecticut Doctor’s family being slaughtered by two predators on probation is another grim reminder why law abiding citizens have the right to own firearms.

I resent anybody who actively seeks to prevent me from protecting my loved ones and my hard earned possessions.

  3. I think it’s time to start contributing to the NRA/ILA again.

  4. This is a great post!

Thanks for the time and effort you took to make this so informative. This post is one of the reasons the blogosphere is so important.

Boy, is there a lot to think about here.

    Thanks again.

  5. Excelent post, Phobos.
From Virginia Citizen’s Defense League’s website:
“VCDL will address Norfolk City Council on Tuesday, August 28th -
about a month from now. You should plan on arriving at 7 PM.”

Some weeks ago we crowded the City of Manassas’ City Council for another incident involving law abiding citizens and the entire Manassas PD’s evening shift. We didn’t expect that huge response not only from VCDL members but of concerned citizens, mostly from our side. A few anti-gun activists also showed up and were astounded by our number. Being aware of our previous response, I’m sure the antis will try to bring an increased number of their troops, so do we.

Again, Phobos, excellent post, very well documented. Thank you! Keep an eye on VCDL’s website for updates on the case. Official reports and transcripts/recordings of all radio traffic and memos will be posted soon, I’m sure, obtained by FOIA requests.

  6. Phobos, the real problem is that you are not being paranoid.  Whether the issue is the right of self defense or eminent domain, there is a a large a growing body of belief that we shouldn’t have as many rights as we currently enjoy.  Pretty much everyone here understands this very well - even a recovering liberal like me.  hmmmm - Actually it was the 2nd Amendment that got me started on re-evaluating the politicians I was willing to support - ah well.

The mere fact that if you do not pay your property taxes and the state can take your property tells me that we don’t own what we think we own, merely that we rent it from the state.  What we consider our purchase of property is merely the purchase of the lease from another individual.  True ownership of the property resides with the state.

OK - now I’ll ask my eternal question - How do we get these ideas across to the rest of the people?  When I try to explain some of this to folks, I’m generally considered “odd”.  Any ideas?

  7. For starters, sorry for the typo.  It should have read “there is a growing body of belief...”

Actually it’s pretty simple.  Whether we look at helmet laws, political correctness, fireworks laws, right to life, the 2nd Amendment, pro life, or some of the edgier provisions of the Patriot Act, in general, more people are in favor of infringing personal rights as long as it’s for a “good cause”.  How many areas is this true of?  How much infringement have you accepted as being ok?  How much of it do you actually feel ok about and how much do you accept because you don’t have any choice?

  8. Looking this over again, I really think that Phobos and Drew stated it much better than I did.  All I pointed to in particular is that a lot of people not only don’t mind losing freedom, they really think that it should happen.

  9. The object of this post is not to convince you that it is your duty to possess a firearm and be trained in its use

BS. It is your duty if you are between 18 and 45 yrs old. That makes you a member of the militia under the Militia Act of 1903. (amended during the ‘70s, I believe, to include women.)

I’d hate to be a member of the militia, be called up for duty, and end up as cannon-fodder because I was too stupid to exercise my 2nd Amendment rights. It is your right and duty to be armed and learn how to handle those arms.

‘Course, I’m 47 now, and therefore not a member of the militia. Come take my rifles, shotguns, and revolvers away from me. Please update your will and notify next-of-kin.
