The aristocratic mentality has always been “they owe it to me since I give them my custom (buy from them) and thus they’ll get more customers”.  They just don’t give the proverbial flying fickle finger of fate salute as to what damage they do to the poor businessman.  Those ones thought they had a good thing going and quite possibly faced debtors prison for not being able to pay their bills since they didn’t get paid.

   As is brought out, the royals could well afford to do the honorable thing.  That being said, when have they ever made it a habit to do the honorable thing?
