I don’t know where the term came from. Tell me. I gather my grandfather used to call such people “red indians”, but in his day they also had “the colored”. Here on the East Coast, the term is never heard, used as a pejorative or not. About the closest thing to indians anywhere around here is Ricardo Montalban wearing buckskins playing a native in some old John Wayne movie. IF you can even find one being shown that is.
The team has been the Redskins for ... forever. 80 years. Not that that makes it right ... but do real “native peoples” actually give a damn about this? Not guilt-ridden DWLs (disingenuous white liberals) - who cares what they think!
Personally, I think this is just one more (of many) dumb things pResident doofuss stuck his big nose into. And even less important than Clinton and his school uniforms thing.
Early Europeans, call em what you want to, explorers, conquerors, whatever, met natives who had dyed their skin using berries as paint. And they wrote about that experience. Redskin. No slurs intended. But tell that to the fraken idiots who insist against all reason that they are defamed and insulted. BS.
Обама will get a grip alright...on Reggie Love’s dick!
Now, if the redskins have to change the name of their team, and choose something that has nothing to do with injuns...er I mean native americans, will they complain that they are not fairly represented in the NFL?
Also, I will be sorely upset, as my lifelong dream of seeing the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins duke it out in the superbowl. Good ole game of cowboys and indians.
sdkar: Cowboys and Indians can still be had in the NFC Championship!
