  1. Peiper old buddy, we worship G-d.  The Father that Jesus referred to.

If you want to learn about classic Judaism, study the beginnings of Jesus.  Up until he said “No way unto the Father but by me.”, I do not know of anything he said or did that was contrary to Judaism.

For virtually his entire life, Jesus was a practicing, observant Jew as was his brother, James, and his mother, Mary.  I will not comment on his relationship with Joseph, but, Joseph was Jewish too.

From the time of Abraham, we have followed G-d’s commandment to carry the word of G-d, that all people might be blessed by that knowledge.  In his own way, it can reasonably be said that Jesus too carried that message.

It is the question of the exact nature of Jesus and the exact meaning of things he said in the latter part of his life that led to the split between Judaism and Christianity.  It begins with the First Commandment:  “I am the Lord thy G-d.  Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

From a Jewish perspective, if Jesus actually did say “No way unto the Father but by me.” and other similar things, that immediately creates a conflict with the First Commandment.  In Jewish thought and law, if Jesus was any sort of intermediary or gate keeper, between man and G-d, even if he is the begotten son of G-d, that would be a violation of the First Commandment.  It’s very absolute and we are permitted no deviation.

I have heard the arguments that accepting Jesus as Christ doesn’t violate our most basic commandment.  However, if there is even the slightest possibility that any of those arguments are faulty in any way, no Jew can become a Christian without condemning his soul for eternity.  That has been our law for over three thousand years.

Interestingly, it’s only a problem for those who are born Jewish.  If you are born Christian or any other faith, our law also says that by faith and righteous acts you too will have a place in heaven.  We’re a lot different from the Moslems in that respect.

  2. You touched upon it Dr. Jeff - but it boils down to simply this - Jesus upset the entire Church/religious leader (thus why Jews and ROP, dislike Christianity sooo much) - structure and CONTROL by taking the church (For when two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst. Matthew 18:20) out of the mix to ‘get to God.’

The religious leaders don’t want to give up the power and control (some way more than others) of their masses - and the ironic part is - people don’t realize how freeing the New Testament is compared to other religions and beliefs.

But then we are seeing that in our political discourse right now too - maybe too many people are ignorant, want to be lead/controlled or just don’t give a damn.

    We shall see.
