CENTCOM Briefing

 

1. And here’s what scuzzy civilians know—and care. I’m in an antique shoppe with my wife. A really squared-away place, organized, dusted, clearly priced. There hung a Marine Corps Winter Green blouse (jacket, wool) with Sgt. stripes and two hashmarks, indicating the Marine had served 8+ years.  The owner had marked it “Soldier Suit”—about this crap he couldn’t have given a less.   

   I turned the tag over to denounce the dumb bastard. But someone had already done so—in short English words.  Probably a Marine, since he spelled ‘Sergeant’ wrong. 

   On my son’s (largely) anti-military campus (years ago) there was a sign “STOP RAPE IN BOSNIA”.  I should have written, “Why don’t you hold a hard-core, really tough demonstration ? That’ll doubtless stop the MF-ers.”

4. Our Senior Washington Senator, Patty “Mom in tennis shoes” Murray told us that Osama is so very popular in Panragistan because he builds clinics and day care centers for the poor people there. We should do the same. After all, the Taliban really needed more females in the workforce, who would, of course, make equal pay for equal work.

   But, as we all know…

   American help did not arrive nearly quickly enough. That’s because George Bush does not like brown people.
