Celebrating the Founding of our Country

  1. A very dramatic rendition of the Battle Hymn there Christopher. Something to remember, when the true cause seems lost in the endless defeatism of the rabid left and the MSM:
    “I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
    “As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
    Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
    Since God is marching on”

    I think Gary Owen is done a bit quick in your linked rendition. It’s a quick march thoght, a song for horsies at the light trot. But I won’t complain. It’s music to fight to, especially when played by the pipes.

    “Instead of spa we’ll drink down ale
    And pay the reckoning on the nail
    for debt no man shall go to jail
    for Gary Owen and Glory”

    “Our hearts so stout have got us fame,
    for soon ‘tis known from whence we came,
    where err we go they dread the name,
    of Gary Owen in Glory”

    We were down at Gettysburg a few weeks back, and there was a strolling singer ... I knew the words to G.O., at least to the chorus. The Black Horse Cavalry has co-opted the tune and set new lyrics, but that’s Ok too. There isn’t much better a tune to have as yours if you’re a fighting regiment. God bless ‘em all.

    Guthrie’s tune still makes me weep, even though I first learned it about a million years ago in Beginning Guitar 101. Sunk by surprise attack, these 88 men died not even knowing why.

    Ah, well, what the hell, I probably should stay away from things like this when I’ve been drinking a wee bit.

    Happy 4th to all. I hope it means something ferocious to you, and isn’t just a day off from work.

  2. Did anyone catch the Capital Fourth - such a liberal lovefest of garbage I have not seen in a while. A tribute to Broadway?!? Give me a break.

    We had to search and found a Song of Praise (Fox Sports, no less, a Direct TV special) with Darrell Waltrip and Natalie Grant. Finally we were able to hear My Country Tis of Thee, Battle Hymm of the Republic and God Bless the USA. And despite what the lying libs said, here among the religious and conservatives was a Hispanic American woman talking about how wonderful being an American is and a black woman talking about integrity. Plus Mark Schultz did Letters from War (WWII). . .

    So much more appropriate than All That Jazz and the other drivel PBS and whomever came up with. . .

    And in Iraq, 588 US soldiers re-enlisted and 161 US soldiers became American citizens on July 4th 2007 - despite Sen. McCain’s presence - it was a real story about what the 4th of July, Independence and America is really, truly about.

    Thanks for those links.
