  1. Ok - Amsterdam has started closing their pot bars - seems like you so blithly imply - the crime rate never went down - and oh yeah - Germany had legalized prostitution - the ‘guys’ so loved it when one of the ‘ladies’ blew positive on STD (most especially AIDS) test as everyone knew what they’d been doing on the down low - when Uncle Hans came knocking with the bad news.

Drugs remain a problem because the laws aren’t enforced and no one goes to prison for life much less their full sentence. Even when they use guns or illegals in the process.

Until gang bangers and drug dealers and drug ‘lords’ are shot on sight - it’s going to continue to be a problem.

And as a friend of Bill W - with friends who used, sold and were the victims of their ‘own’ druggy ‘friends’ - I know the dark side of any addiction.

Grow up - deal with what it is that makes you want to destroy your mind and body and then get on with life.

Legalizing a criminal element does nothing but tear apart civilization - bit by bit, step by step and person by person.

  2. Right on Wardmama. I never needed Bill’s friendship, but I wasted a lot of my life being wasted. Put it all behind me, fell back into it, put it all behind me again and I’ve stayed that way for 15+ years now. Being a stoner isn’t an addiction, but it sure is a strong habit. But the desire fades away after time. And I know that, given the chance, I could take a few hits and not fall down again. Actually, I’m so clean at this point that a few hits would almost knock me down, but that’s not what I meant. So no OCM, there ain’t no virgins-against-promiscuity preaching going on here. Been there, done that, it destroys your life, left it behind.

Hey Old Cat, do they still make those little french rolling papers, the kind with no glue? Man, I used to be a whiz rolling with those things. Small sheets, very lightweight paper. Came in a little yellow and red packet about 1 inch square with a picture of some guy reading a paper and smoking. Clubs? Modianos? Can’t remember. Very few people could use them, but I learned. Sparkin up somebody else’s spliff made with super thick gluey EZ Widers tasted like smoking the Sunday New York Times. Bleh.

  3. Drew not exactly a friend of Bill W - in the sense of doing the meetings (got as far as the literature)(1985) - it’s just an easy way to indicate to people (without the ugly details of reality) as too how far down I went (actually I went further, but that is a whole nother story). I have a beer now and then (Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup playoffs mostly), had sake with the son at a restaurant a couple of months ago and there is this little fruity drink at Joe’s Crab Shack - that I will never ever turn down. But no longer sit around drinking (or for that matter going out to drink), no longer smoke (that’s the one I quit, fell down, quit, fell back and quit (2003) and am now mastering that final demon in my life - sugar (Yeah, I know, good luck with that one) - I have however quit soda which was a nice 5 pounds off the top - so I am at least moving forward. And no OCM I won’t ever talk about the drugs - that is between me & God and he promised if I repented, he’d forgive.

Let’s see OCM - 26 years married - 4 adult kids (2 married, 6 grandchildren) - 2 daughters got their Bachelors this year (Son got his MA in 2007)- hubby will get his in Dec - two cars (paid for), relatively healthy all, and never ever been in jail (oh wait, never arrested) - got a college diploma last year. And with the grace of God - managing to eat, pay bills etc on no income from employment for either of us this year.  So umm - when I look back on the lying, cheating, being cheated on, money draining accounts in nano seconds (and never quite sure who or what - well until I sobered up) - and of course a destroyed first marriage - I’m the one calling bullsh*t!

  5. OCM, pot use is linked to an increase in paranoia.
I personally could care less about what people do to their own bodies, its when it impacts me that I get concerned, Meth addicts breaking into property I own to steal copper so they can finance their next high, The blight it brings to a neighborhood when some stoner won’t take care of his garbage, and rats move in. tenants who are so stoned they don’t go to work and earn money for rent. Then I have to go to the expense of getting them evicted, and all the while they rant about whats the big deal? I was gonna get a job next week after this stash of bud is gone.
