  1. This is why ‘Castle doctrine’ laws have been passed in almost all of the states. Ohio passed one that was signed by our Democrat governor. No longer does one have a ‘duty to retreat’ when faced with crime in your own house or on your own property.

This also points out the shortcomings of relying on the state (ie, the police) to protect you. Where were the police? Police are a reactionary force that cleans up the mess after the fact.

And, in Britain, the police prosecute the victim. The lesson is clear:

Shoot, shovel, shut-up, when in Britain.

  3. But they’re VERY big on “hate” crimes here and are trying their best to stamp it out.
But gremlins can get 50 chances to get their career choice right.

  4. -’However, if persons were permitted to take the law into their own hands and inflict their own instant and violent punishment on an apprehended offender rather than letting justice take its course, then the rule of law and our system of criminal justice hand holding , which are the hallmarks of a civilised society, would collapse’-

Here’s the difference - In the ‘civilized’ society of Judge Reddihough - the criminal who was caught up with - got a supervision sentence despite a long criminal record and the victims held at knife point and tied up get charged with a crime.

Meanwhile here in OH where the Castle Doctrine does indeed exist - when a small business owner was (attempted) to be robbed at gunpoint - not only did he shoot at the guy in the store, he ran after him down the street and shot again (killed him I do believe) - and our local DA did not charge him - perp uses deadly force - you have the right to defend yourself.

Sadly - I don’t think we are any more civilized than you guys over there - simply because the justice system in both places are letting the criminals off - but at least here - we still have the right to defend ourselves. (As Christopher said, even with an idiot Dem Gov)

  5. Ok I read this story as well, but I think you need to take a step back. Castle doctrine is a good thing and I am all for it, but this was not a case of the man defending his castle. He and his brother chased and caught one of the perps and beat him with a cricket bat. With enough force to break the bat. Now I don’t know how familiar you are with cricket bats but that would take some doing. The man should have the right to defend himself and his property. Chasing after them and then beating him to the point of brain damage is taking the piss. I don’t agree with him getting a jail sentence but he should have at least been bound over to keep the peace. The real problem here is that the perps are repeat offenders. If they were to actually jail people for proper terms in the first place most of these crimes would never take place because the criminals would be banged up in jail.

  6. Lyndon you make a point - but exactly how would anyone of us react if we were held at knife point, tied up? I have a grand distrust of the media these days and what is left out of the story - did these particular nasties do or say something that really escalated the situation or even the perception of the situation in the mind of the male hostages? Taunting takes on a whole different meaning when one side is tied up and the other has weapons - did this man fondle or do something else to the daughter? And also it seems to be a crime between peoples of the same religion/background and/or culture - perhaps it was an old seething historical hatred brewed ripe by the addition of a crime (or two) - Thanks to the pc media - we won’t get all the pertinent details to make a real decision as to whether the victim was indeed justified - and given our ‘perps’ seemingly long criminal history - perhaps brain damage wasn’t too far a drop down for him (what’s a 56 year old man doing committing crimes?!? with a gang - no honor among thieves that they ran for it and left the old man to fend for himself).

I might sound harsh - but this guy put himself intentionally into a violent situation (probably thinking we have the weapons, we will control it and win) not figuring on the victims fighting back. And as for the son escaping to ‘get help’ - how was he to know that the second he fled, his entire family was not killed - what good would the police coming in 10 to 20 minutes be then? I no longer have any sympathy for criminals, most especially those with long criminal histories - they obviously aren’t changing and continue to be a menace to society. One more bad guy down, too bad it wasn’t permanent and now the taxpayers will be footing the care for this scum. And the victim is going to do time - what a crock.

In their own societies wouldn’t they have cut off his hands long ago?

Makes me wonder exactly how civilized we have become when the criminals get better treatment, concern and outcomes than the victim. Chaos and violence will continue not get any less. Ever.
