  1. Peiper, we value and honor our UK cousins and friends and their sacrifices in the GWOT.  As to what we’re gonna call it, I read the following in the 3/31/2009 Wall Street Journal:

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the Obama administration has stopped using “war on terror,” breaking with the Bush administration’s terminology in describing the conflict with al Qaeda and militant Islam.
“The administration has stopped using the phrase, and I think that speaks for itself,” Mrs. Clinton told reporters as she traveled here for a United Nations-led conference on Afghanistan.
The phrase has been criticized as having inflammatory connotations in the Muslim world. Some Democratic officials believe it is better to describe more specifically whom the U.S. is fighting, such as al Qaeda or the Taliban

    .

I found this surprising, since it sure seems to me that saying “WOT” is more general than specifying groups that we all know are Muslim.  Go figure.

  2. During WWII it was said: “All gave some, Some gave All”.

The Great Tragedy is that these Precious Young People Sacrificed All for a Society
That in Large Part Paints them as Terrorists and now will not even acknowledge the
existance of the Struggle they were engaged in and Still Exists.

  3. “Overseas contingency operations.”

    Sheesh.

  4. Every one of them looks like someone you’d want for a buddy and a neighbor.

  5. Overseas contingency operations?

Oh good grief. What the hell kind of double talk is that?

I don’t believe I have ever seen my country in so much trouble. Not since the anti war protests of the 60’s anyway.  Overseas contingency operations. Unbelievable!

The phrase has been criticized as having inflammatory connotations in the Muslim world.
Thank Happy.  Yeah ... we must not ever say or do anything to offend them. Must we?

  6. Well there are a number of reasons to use that ‘overseas contingency operations’ PC leftist doublespeak
    1) they can cut down the armed forces to whatever level they want - we are no longer fighting a ‘war’
    2) they can pull us out of Iraq and/or Afghanistan when they want - we are no longer fighting a ‘war’
    3) they can keep us in Iraq and/or Afghanistan forever (let us not forget President ‘Home by Christmas’ Clinton’s ‘military operation’) - we are no longer fighting a ‘war’
    4) they can ignore (as they do the Korean DMZ and the ‘incidents’ there) any and all deaths (you know like those 17 navy personnel killed on the Cole) as - we are no longer fighting a ‘war’
    5) and finally (of course the best for last) they can cut the $$$$ going the Iraq and/or Afghanistan because - all together now - We Are NO Longer Fighting A War.
