  1. This is Bush’s fault! KOS sez so. Halliburton, distraction from Gonzales, global warming, Karl Rove did it.

  2. Yes, the liberals will be screaming as to whose fault this is and figuring out creative ways to raise the taxes - and yet never mention how great it is that at rush hour, full traffic - and yet only 7 people are confirmed dead.

No tributes to those who ran into the disaster to aid and help their fellow citizens. No tributes to the wonderful 911 system and first responders and hospitals - so that even people crushed and caught under water - will survive.

No acknowledgement that out of the thousands, hundred of thousands of bridges - this is just one of X that collapsed this year, this decade? You get my point.

America is the best, one of the most workable countries in the World - yet too many will only focus on the negative and make all American taxpayers pay for something that the real money is being wasted on too many bureaucrats rather than going directly to maintaining the infrastructure (hint NOLA).

  3. Funny thing, Rickvid, our esteemed senator Patty Murray has already come out and pointed the finger at Bush. These people need serious medical help.

  4. YouTube and CNN have the video here

  5. Another tragic reminder of our government failing us.

We have seismographs buried deep in the earth to predict earthquakes, we have satellites in space monitoring the weather, we have tracking devices on wolves to see how they are surviving, but we have no monitoring equipment on bridges that can warn us the bridge is about to collapse?

GWB would score a lot of points with me if he took this on and devised a strategy for fixing the system that is responsible for building and maintaining the country’s critical infrastructure.

  6. 1. Infrastructure is like diet and exercise—much harder to play catch-up.

    2. A local Professor of Engineering noted that structures are more likely to collapse DURING renovation than before or after.  A smart guess is that someone cut something crucial—smart maybe, but still a guess.

  7. Instead of building to “save”, engineers should build to “stay”.
That goes for 911 buildings, too.

  8. I’m afraid there will be many more confirmed dead this weekend.  There are ~30 cars still trapped underwater and little evidence that anyone got out.

  9. I revise my statement, WM.

This is Bush’s fault! KOS sez so. Halliburton, distraction from Gonzales, global warming, Karl Rove did it. Their operatives, posing as “rescue workers” got there within moments to ensure the destruction was complete!

There, how’s that! Where’s my bong?

  10. Adding known dead + missing = about 14.  Hard to imagine anyone still missing, unless they want to be.  I’ve heard tales of people using confusing tragedies as an opportunity to disappear & start a new life.
