  1. I don’t see a problem with it either… but I wish people would not use the poor “it’s a natural thing” argument. After all, how she got the kid started was also a “natural thing” and we would probably take exception to doing that in public. Lot’s of bodily functions are not allowed in public.

  2. JimS,

Copulation in private is sick and perverted. What are you trying to hide?

Here’s a natural act: I fart in your general direction!

Oh dear, I just emitted global warming gasses. The EPA will probably want to fine me for that.

  3. christopher: They’ll probably require the installation of an exhaust gas scrubber. wink just pray that they don’t go in for recirculation. wink

  4. The “Y” is a private entity, not a public place.

You have no “right to be there”..... case closed.

  5. A state law protects mothers who breast-feed in public. It states that a mother, “may breastfeed her child in any public place which is open to . . . the general public,” and where the mother and child are lawfully present.

You see TimO, the ‘Y’ is open to the general public…

  6. The Y is a public place - therefore it was against the law to attempt to remove the mother from the area.

Two nursing (try using that instead of breastfeeding - takes the boobs out of the visualization of the process) - is indeed a ‘natural thing’ but not in the same way as the other processes. The only reason that in America there is such a hangup in regards to nursing is that in 1953, Hugh gave boobs a job and men wanted that more than healthy wives, daughters and children.

    Nursing one’s child:
Saves enough money in one year to buy a major appliance.
Saves the plastic, factory production pollution, transportation pollution (i.e. it is a green thing to do)
    For baby:
Cholesterol levels in advanced age are lower - no matter what the lifestyle after nursing was.
IQ points are higher even with just 6 weeks of nursing. Children who nursed score higher on average - on intelligence tests. Mensa claimed in the late 70’s that the only people in their highest IQ levels had only one thing in common, they were nursed as infants.
Lower occurrence/risk of juvenile diabetes, upper respiratory & ear infections.
Fat cells set down by consumption of human milk are water soluble and therefore are absorbed as mobility in the infant increases - fat cells set down by formula are not - thus are a precursor of obesity, in correlation with this is that nursing (optimally) is controlled by the infants hunger cues - thus both the mother and child - do not force feeding or over feed (due to how much is in the bottle or a set schedule of feeding).
    For Mother;
Lower risks of breast cancer (72 continual weeks of nursing - negates every risk factor other than genetics, 72 combined weeks is almost as good [that’s 18 months total, for one child or all]
Calcium levels in mothers bones is lower while nursing, but after weaning actually bounce back to much higher even without supplements
Weight loss from nursing is slower, but more lasting. The extra 500 calories needed to nurse is the equivalent of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich.
It takes 60 minutes of which 25 are spent with infant to bottle feed (purchasing, preparation and cleaning bottles) - It takes 10 to 30 minutes to nurse - all of which is spent with the infant.

For a society that shows nudity and barely clad women in almost every venue possible - the hypocrisy of being ‘offended’ by a nursing mother is truly sad. It the best for mother and baby and should be supported and encouraged.

AZ is indeed the cutting edge of all things American (like freedom to nurse in public without being hassled) I have a bumper sticker from a group out there (1990s) so appropriate to today’s ‘changes’ -

    Affordable Healthcare Starts with Breastfeeding.

BTW, The Won couldn’t even resist messing with this area and is now attempting to usurp LLL & Lactation consultants with ‘Loving Support’ - a UNIONIZED attempt to have Uncle Obama oversee breastfeeding in America.

  7. The Y is the best place I know to eat a box lunch. I like mine with the complimentary dental floss.

    Robert A. Heinlein:

Nursing does not diminish the beauty of a woman’s breasts; it enhances their charm by making them look lived in and happy.

By all means, let us work to make mommies boobies happy!
