   Just in case this is your first time getting your female cats fixed, here’s a checklist from this household’s experiences over the past 20 years of cat ownership:

   - Cat litter should be completely changed out with new stuff in order to minimize possible infection sources.
   - Use a low profile litter box if at all possible to avoid their bellies catching on the rim of the box.  That incision is going to be tender for a while.
   - The litterbox, food, and water should all be located on the same floor.  Help them avoid stair climbs for a few days if they aren’t up to it.
   - Leave the cat carriers nearby the food and water, open door, with comfortable bedding inside.  They may want to hide in the cat carriers as a place of safety for a while.
   - Expect lethargy when they first come home.  It takes a while for the anesthetic to wear off if you’re picking them up the same day they had the operation.  Just let ‘em rest.
   - If they show signs of being scared, just give them extra attention and love (assuming they’re not spooking at you too.) If they don’t want your attention, don’t force the issue, they’ll come around.
