  1. I don’t understand this because wherever I have lived your vehicle tax is part of your registration fees to renew your tag.  So is this being done by folks who have failed to re-register their vehicles?

The only problem I have with this is that I bought the car; it is MY property (assuming I bought it outright with no financing).  Driving it on public roads, I understand, is a privilege for which we all must pay our share.  What gives the government the right to STEAL my property, which amounts to way more than what I (hopefully) owe in taxes?  If I ever caught anybody trying to steal my property I’m ripping their fucking throat out, cops or otherwise.  There’s one Gainesville tow truck driver who tried to tow my car for overstaying its welcome in a metered parking space.  I guarantee the next time a car owner catches him in the act of towing his car, this guy will remove the shackles and go about his merry way as he holds his throat with fond memories… cool mad

  2. INC, sorry, gotta disagree.  If you live in a state where the law says that you must pay taxes in order to keep a car---them’s the rules. People that don’t like that rule should not live in those states.

Plus, the city is not “stealing” your property.  They are acting like a pawn shop.  Pay what you owe them and you get it back.

Hell, landlords should have that right:  if renters don’t pay the rent landlord cuts off water, electric, phone and has the right to go into the house and remove all the furniture.  But then again, I am an evil bastard.  grin

  3. Vilmar, I’ll agree with you on one thing:  You can bet I would never even consider living in one of those little, rinky-dink NE states that shouldn’t even be allowed to be states.  Shit, there are counties in CA that are bigger than Connecticut.

Seems to me that if they include car taxes with your registration fees a lot of the problem could be eliminated.  No pay fees, no tag renewal.  Get caught driving with expired tags, then maybe towing the vehicle is OK.

Also, isn’t this the same state that with all the eminent domain controversy discussed here earlier in the week?  Seems like this is just one fucked-up place with all sorts of problems. finger New Haven and New London; if these folks elected these asshats doing this government ransom scheme, they get what they deserve.

Well, it’s too nice a day here, so I’m going for a brisk drive in the country on my nice, uncongested New Zealand roads cheese, but on a tank of $1.20/liter gasoline long face  - that’s about $4.50/gallon for you metrically challenged out there.  At least you don’t see too many soccer mom-driven Hummers or other ostentacious SUV’s here (thank God).

  4. In Ireland the do the same with your TV!  I if you dont pay the annual licence fee (to support public broadcasting regardless if you watch it or not) you get fined 650 Eurobucks.
You get caught again, in the space of three years, you get finded 1300 Eurobucks AND they confiscate the TV!

  5. INC, Connecticut is very liberal (I was raised there and my sister still lives there.) They tax everything in order to rape their citizenry tax-wise and then they spend it on overblown social programs so that inner city moms can stay as crack whores, dependent on the government tit.

  6. Vilmar:  “...they spend it on overblown social programs so that inner city moms can stay as crack whores...”

That’s what I figured mad  Here’s my gift to Connecticrap and its liberal neighbor, Massa2shits - finger and a bomb
