Yep,That pretty much sums it up for me as to overblowin this all out of proportion.
Hi Rich. Well, so far there is NOTHING here that even hints of ash or anything that even looks like it. BUT ... if the darn thing keeps smokin and the wind direction changes.. ?
That map painted a pretty grim picture and showed us covered in the stuff.
Well, it is covered in some places but quite a long distance from us so I guess the wind was going there. But you are right about things getting overblown.
Remember in the past? What was it, the 60s? We were all of us gonna freeze to death cos ...
I can’t even remember cos why. Something in the air. And the there was that god awful Hole in the ozone layer. That was gonna do us in unless we all scrapped our cars and started walking again. LOL! I bought a bigger car. Seems there is always something that is gonna bring the sky down.
You may recall I wrote here about the old style light bulbs that are no longer available.
Yeah, a few billion of those are gonna kill the planet. lol again. I started hoarding a year before the kill date. Set for life now. Burn all the electric I want to and darn, the planet is still here. But ya know, Volcanoes kinda different. Pompeii comes to mind.
I usually agree with Littlejohn on most things. And yes, that map is NOT accurate at all. Not even close. But I don’t know about this time. He could well be wrong, which would be a first. But who wants to become the victim of anyone’s first mistake? It just could be that the authorities have it right. For the very first time.
Toldjaso. And it’s going to get worse.
Get a respirator. Gas mask. Airborne particulate filter. Call it what you want, but the “dust masks” aren’t going to cut it.
Hydrogen Sulfide is a product of volcanic gas. That old rotten egg smelling stuff. However, in stronger concentrations is is highly flammable and acutely poisonous. And not a mask on the market will protect you for more than 20 minutes. That’s why every last filter cartridge for it is rated “escape only”.
You can’t see the acid gases that are part of the fallout. I’d recommend getting several sets of OV/AG filter packs with the secondary particulate filter. Off the cuff, I’d call for a B1E1 filter element, but it’s been ages since I’ve studied HAZMAT regs. I do recall that CF-B1E1-P3 stops damn near anything, even mustard gas.
I used to have to wear a respirator when I worked at the electronics factory, running the wave solder machine when I wasn’t schlepping chemicals from the storage room for the PCB and chip making machines. You can wear them for hours on end with only slight discomfort.
And unlike military gas masks, these things are easy to breath through.
Years later I still have the mask. I can clean things with straight Clorox and not smell a thing. Smoke? Doesn’t get through. Paint fumes? Nada. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Change the filters every 5 years just because.
You can’t see the acid gases that are part of the fallout.
Nor can you see the very lightest of the ash cloud in faint concentrations, but it’s there. Microscopic bits of obsidian froth.
Sheesh, and they say smoking is bad for ya.
Grumpy, Thanks and appreciate knowing that for the sake of being informed. Even if I can’t do anything about it. I never knew that.
Same for Drew. Can count on him for informative and knowledgeable stuff and often from his own experience.
Of course, there are those who contribute nothing at all and we ignore them when we can.
Oh btw ... that cloud has settled in the midlands, much closer now. About 200 miles away give or take.
There was a short bit on the TV news last night about how the UK sent up a fighter jet to check on things. It flew around a bit and came down, and the camera showed the blades in the front of the engine. They were all slagged and pitted, even after a short flight.
I gather there are no planes flying in Europe right now. Enjoy the quiet while it lasts. We had that situation after 9/11 and it was quite eerie. We’re so used to it, thousands of planes in the air all the time, that it’s striking when it’s taken away.
