http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlyCSlAYECA this is the best version I could find. It has no music other than a little drum. You’ll have to imagine a bit of bagpipe, a good military tattoo on the drums, some fife work and a bit of lively fiddle playing. And then overlay your own misty battle imagery. Too bad Jethro Tull never took this one on, it would have been a blast.

  1. “Other versions have modernized the lyrics, and purged all the difficult Nac Mac Feegle-isms from the lyrics.”

...which makes about as much sense as purging them from “O Flower of Scotland”.

“But they had to fight for every damn pin, so it was no cakewalk for our opponents. And that kind of losing I can live with.”

And there you have it. Losing doesn’t hurt if you can force the winners to be people you are proud to lose to.

  2. I don’t guess they have climate change or global warming down there.

  3. On the cave.. wow.. just wow.
I love spelunking, you never know where you will end up at. I wish I had the assets and contacts to visit the People’s Glorious Communist Paradise™®© of Vietnam and get authorization to visit it (read: Bribes)to see them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the NatGeo people had Jane call her buddies in Hanoi to help grease the wheels, but I digress..

  4. And I agree Grumpy.. It takes some of the sting from the defeat.

  5. The team we played last night is full of ringers. Sand baggers. The guys on the team all work at the alley, and/or have family ties to it ... one guy’s mom has run the front counter for decades, and the other guy is her long-ago ex and the godfather of all her children, who also work there. All they do is bowl. To say they are capable bowlers is a huge understatement. It’s in their blood.

So if they could only beat us by 9 pins in one game, we consider that a victory. That we took one game is amazing.
