  2. I wasn’t even involved in the top two topics. I’m confident ohh that if a tally was made of the most admired commenter .....

Posted by Oink    United States   02/19/2006  at  02:37 PM

  3. angel pig angel I’m proud that “Keeping Faith” made Number 9.

  4. You know what amazes me - I find it hard to get men to talk much at all. Yet you all bloviate to each other ALOT!

I suppose if I had found the site sooner - I could have had some numbers, but then I chose not to comment on the scantily clad women pics (which I’m sure drops my competition down into the gutter - which is how I bowl). Anyway, I figure that you guys would think I’m a feminazi [which I’m not, just not sure why the other side isn’t just as posted].

You guys also lose me on the sci-fi issues - I don’t have a clue and I’m still trying to figure out 90% of the sci fi movies I’ve seen. My hubby has tried desperately over the years to help me understand them, but alas it is just a glich in my head that skips the key point - somehow.

About getting a life - I just feel that blogs are replacing the fence and the water cooler for discussion ‘places’. It is nice to see how other people feel about topics that interest me and also to see how the ‘other’ side feels (though I can only stomach a little of that at a time).

Now that someone took the time to tally all the ‘non’ information concerning the most comments and commentors. That is certainly on the edge of boredom - I’ve got trees that need to be pruned and gardens that need to be turned, if you are that bored come sweat a bit here. Of course since we are at a stiffling 23 degrees, I don’t think anyone would sweat at all. If this is ‘glowball’ warming - I’d hate to see what winter would ‘really’ be like!

  5. Good game, OCM. I scored a 21 the first time out. Wanna guess what my target was? party

I ordered a life from amazon.com. Hasn’t arrived yet, so I’ll piss away my time here when I’m not doin’ something else. Keeps me off the streets, dontcha know.

Some of the best SciFi was written by Isaac Asimov and Robert A. Heinlein, Wardmama. They didn’t go in for a lot of “bug eyed monster” stuff. Pay no attention to movies, they’re usually crap. There are some great novels and short stories too. I’m thinking that Asimov’s ”Nightfall” was one of the best short stories ever.

  6. Yes I believe my hubby has all of Heinlein’s books - I’ve made it through 1. He, my daughter and ex hubby all tear most sci-fi movies apart as they have all read the books. And I have an Asimov book but not sci-fi - he co-authored a book on races which I used in an anthropology course a million years ago when I was in college.

I did get and loved Rod Serling - he really made some real interesting points about humanity. Too damn bad television started making him ‘commercial.’ I guess he’s the closest I get to sci-fi and understanding it.

I’ll ask hubby if he has “Nightfall” I am always up for a good book, even if I don’t understand it.

  7. Ahhh, “Nightfall”. One of the first sci-fi short stories I ever read. The beauty of those writers in the Golden Age of sci-fi was they were geniuses at coming up with “what if” scenarios and taking the concept to its ultimate conclusion in a plausible way. In “Nightfall” Asimov posited that a civilization that never knew darkness (due to being in a system with six suns) would face great challenges when all of a sudden darkness fell ... every 2,000 years (due to a once in a bi-millenia alignment of celestial bodies). Interesting take on cycles of civilizations and how people forget over time. It was SO believable that I could almost see the same thing happening to us every 10,000 years when the temps drop and the glaciers move south. I loved that story.

  9. OCM: What is this ‘life’ that you speak of? LOL

Posted by Annoying Little Twerp    United States   02/19/2006  at  05:17 PM

  10. Yep, as I’ve said elsewhere, Asimov was a genius who could communicate well with us lesser mortals. He sure ventured far afield from his specialty of Organic Chemistry. Here’s a bibliography of his work. Amazing!

*Democrats Don’t Like 9/11 Reference by Bush* is great, lots of great commentary, i highly recommend a read or reread, whichever may be the case.

*BMEWS IN TIME MAGAZINE* i enjoyed immensely!! the comments are so freaking HILARIOUS i could not stop laughing, and ended up scaring both my new puppies, poor little things- they now think i’m quite nuts LOL

Thanks to a dear friend who, by the way! just happens to be an obsessive-compulsive hoarder- I now have a TIME copy with the BMEWS mentioned in it.

CONRATULATIONS SKIPPER!! JMHO- but i do truly think BMEWS is one of the best,(and yes, OCM) MOST unique blogs on the internet, I really enjoy it.
