  1. Thanks for the plug, Drew, but as of early this morning I’ve been locked out of the new blog because of “content” issues.  For the life of me I can’t figure it out unless AP is bitching about my quoting their stories.  I know it is not the Eye Candy because more (less?) is seen at lots of beaches.

This crap is getting way old.  Quick.

Oh, and that “embiggenfying” thing?  It’s a function of my trying to save disk space.  WP only gives me 3 gig. I’d run out of space in no time.

  2. Drew, you should invite Vilmar back. At least until the other issues get fixed. I’ve never had any problems with his content. I was sorry he and the late Skipper had their falling out. I can only think he has a decidedly conservative bent with a taste for hot women. We can’t have that, can we? More Vilmar! Please!

  3. C - Hey, now there’s an idea. Hmmm.

V - Damn boy, I was just at your site an hour ago!! And it’s still up, with new posts since I was there!!! Crivens, locked out again??? And yeah, I know, big pics eat server space. Just teasing. BMEWS got the upgrade last year, so we’re on unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth. Now, if I could just get enough co-workers to post like mad, we could make this blog a happening phat place.

  4. I can still get to Vilmar’s new site just fine as of 5:27 PM Eastern…

I can see the post:  “A BOY AND HIS ATOM: WORLD’S SMALLEST MOVIE” at the top of the page.

I wonder if it has anything to do with whether you’re actively logged into wordpress.com or not?  (I’m NOT at the moment...)

  5. Nope, logging in made no difference, the site is still responding to me just fine… Which means they’re just messing with your personal access to your own site Vilmar; that really sucks.

  6. They did not block access to the site.  Just my permissions to add posts, make changes, etc.

They just answered back to say the reason they suspended my access was that I had too many “scheduled posts” for into the future.  I do that a lot especially with the funny stuff, weird videos, and eye candy. I have so much of it that I just pre-program it to appear at a future date.  It’s easy to do it in bulk...and much faster.

So my permissions are back but I have to limit my “pre-posts” to under 100!!

All is well.  Thanks for the concern.

And I will work on that “embiggen” thing!  grin

  7. Hah, just out-link to the hi-res pics. target="_blank". Easy, costs you nada server space. Finding the big images is what takes your time, and ensuring you can link directly to them. Some of those Asian sites are twitchy. The Russians don’t seem to care.

You’ve got to teach me how to amass 100+ posts in advance and still stay on top of the news. I really can’t afford to spend hours every day doing this any longer, but would like to get half a dozen timely posts up per day.

  8. Drew, I do not link out to others’ links.  I download all my images from wherever I find them and then upload them to the server.  Doing it like you say takes forever and is a lot of work.  Plus you are at the mercy of whoever owns the original site to never change their file structure or stay in business.

Putting them on the server allows me to control file naming (I use the program “bulk rename utility") and Paint.net to open 30 or 40 at a time and re-size them.  Setting the “quality” to 50% allows the image size to be reduced quite a bit.  For example, a 4000x3000 resolution image that measures 5.4M when reduced to 1200x900 goes down to about 90k.

That’s all well and good and would not cause me to run out of server space but since WP has a column limit of about 700 pixels I can’t make that picture fit so I’ve got to figure out how WP will allow me to do that.

As for amassing so many posts it’s as I mentioned above.  I download all my own pictures, rename them and re-size them to fit.

I then use w.bloggar as a platform for composing all my posts. Since I know the naming structure for where the picture will be on the server I have it already copied as a line of code in Bloggar.

So.... once I have all the file names the same and prefixed with a different number for each it’s a simple matter of taking the code above, inserting the filename and descriptor for the first image, copying and pasting it 30 times.  Then go back and change just the numbers in the file name.  Open the “add post” link 15 times in 15 different tabs, copy and paste the codes into each one, date/tie stamp them and save them off.

I do that for the chuckles and eye candy.  Also the lol cats, etc.

I also run across all sorts of weird/odd stories/videos every day and I do the same for them.

Hope that helps.  I am certain a lot of what I wrote you already know but to explain my process and maintain continuity of the process I was forced to write things you are familiar with.
