  1. Are you surprised? It is Ed Balls after all.

  2. Come on this is Ed, New Labours Piers Fletcher-Dervish. A chap who could not list the colours of the rainbow, who said “so what” to tax rises and who has blundered his way through 11 years of New Labour social engineering here in the UK.

  3. And here my three year old granddaughter has made off with the 6 ornaments and chopsticks I used to make a ‘grown’ up centerpiece - they are scattered about the house - and no eyes were poked out and no ornments shattered into tiny scalpels.

I raised my kids to respect the possessions in the house - don’t touch unless you ask or it’s yours. Apparently my son is the same way (although I knew that this particular piece was going to be a little kid magnet). And I made it with the least new (not old as in sentimental) ornaments - so I was ok with the playing with it.

The missing birthday card - however - is a pain. I committed my first mother-in-law faux-paux yesterday - forgetting the dil’s b-day and losing the card that came in the mail. I blame it on 2 hours notice that they were coming.

And now we have to figure out how to bed down a whole nother family (2 adults and 3 children) when we already have every bed filled and even a borrowed air bed filled.

It should be fun - but I am so happy that both guys are back safe from their deployments and that we are able to have them come to visit. A merry (and harried) time will be had by all!

Merry (and of course state sanctioned safe) Christmas to All.

  4. Ever since I saw a household iron with the label, “Never iron clothes while they are being worn”, I’m not surprised by this stuff anymore. Personally I think we’d do civilization a favor if those so stupid as to need such warnings were allowed to do something terminally idiotic and die.
I must admit, I’m slightly surprised that I haven’t yet seen an icepick,a Sawzall or a hammer drill with the label, “WARNING: Using this product to pick your nose may result in injury or death.”

  5. “Never iron clothes while they are being worn”

There is something worrying when we reach this level of stupidity. I agree with you GOF these people should be allowed to remove themselves from the gene pool. I have a bottle of aspirins in my cupboard. I bought them in the US a couple of years back. In nanny state Britain you can only buy 16 at a time. This one has 300. The bottle is transparent but the label has picture of an aspirin with the legend “actual size.” Why? The bottle is transparent. I can see how bloody big they are.

  6. Lyndon, are you sure 16?  I think now it’s 28.  Whatever, it’s all dumb.
Can not buy safety coated aspirin in UK without an Rx.  ???  How stupid is that?
Good grief they are safety coated. But no. Need a docs Rx. INSANE!

  7. Peiper. You may be right. I haven’t bought any for years. I just buy them by the hundreds in the US when on holiday! As you say it’s barking mad!

  8. Bio, Harry K. Smith, Pg.6, paragraph 4.

“If there is a thread running through the century,
it is the breathtaking advances in science and technology without commensurate improvements in morals or wisdom.”
