Blatant Hypocrisy

  1. I knew I had come across something about US aid to developing nations earlier this year when reading about Palestine/Iraq/etc.

This isn’t it, exactly, but it does point out the illogic of those who would berate us over our (lack of) spending for ‘worthy causes’.

    This was written in 1997....
<snip> “There is plenty of money in wasteful and ineffective economic development aid and other nonessential accounts to cover the cost of these new operations.” Since World War II the United States has spent nearly $1 trillion (in 1997 dollars) on foreign aid. The result is debt, dependency and poverty.

Even many advocates of foreign assistance have been disappointed by the results. For instance, USAID admitted in 1993 that “much of the investment financed by USAID and other donors between 1960 and 1980 has disappeared without a trace.” USAID administrator Brian Atwood admits that in the case of Zaire, “the investment of over $2 billion of American foreign-aid served no purpose.” <snip>

You can read the rest here
    Cato Institute

Isn’t anyone in Washington, or the MSM for that matter, thinking?  Why isn’t someone making this an issue and fighting to reduce the amount of aid given to ‘developing nations’.  Seems the only thing being developed is the need for our government to dig deeper and deeper into OUR pockets while the UN and the rest of the world believe that our money will solve THEIR problems.
