  1. My recommendation is that every one of these little spoiled brats have every dime of financial aid revoked, and every penny that they have already taken out as loans become due instantly at 19.5% credit terms (remember - during the Carter years???) What the hell are they “learning”?  What a bunch of dum phuks.

  2. In conversations I have had with *some* in this age group,I cannot help but be stunned by the total lack of motivation to read and really explore any alternative to the pablum they are spoon fed in large doses by the mainstream media - hence, the lack of individualized **thinking** does not surprise me.

Over and over in conversations...when asked to site the source of their thinking, or thought process to form such opinions, it is near impossible for them to do so....

The few who were even willing to entertain a more than transparent conversation about topics along this line, as noted in this story, can’t site a book, an article, etc that helped them form such an opinion....yet, they can cetainly say...*well, I heard or saw on so and so about this*...and voila! that is what they *think*, their opinion is born.

Thank goodness not everyone is so easily led....

  3. Lucky for me, I got to meet Mike (Masajiro) Kawato, the pilot who was credited for shooting Pappy down towards the end of the war. I remember Mike as a little old Japanese man who was a very kind and distinguished gentleman. Upon meeting me he was amazed that there were any young Americans left who had an interest in what he did, and this was way back in 1984 (I was 12 yrs old). I’m sure he would be appalled at what today’s youth thinks about his generation now, God rest his soul…

I, as one of the few, will never forget him.  smile

  4. If I were a college president, I would forbid the creation of any document that began with the words “Be It Resolved”.  I would dissolve all ‘Student Senates’ and organizations unrelated to academics; I would terminate any professor who made a public statement unrelated to his academic field of expertise—with departments such as Sociology and Political Science forbidden to speak publicly at all.

  5. I saw this in the Opinion Journal the other day and it pissed me off so much I put it on my web site and e-mailed it to my friends (yes, more than one!).  I don’t know what in the hell is wrong with young folks these days, I guess they weren’t around during WW2 to be aware of the consequences of losing, and don’t realize that what is going on today in the world is just as threatening to our future freedom.

Oinker, you got it, but I would go even further; unfortunately the lords of academia are just as bad and misguided as the little snots enrolled.

  7. So the Student Republicans wonder why they can’t erect a monument something akin to the Diversity Monument up at UW?  They really wonder?  Because Diversity and Tolerance are gods and someone that would use their life to defend their country and the people in it is something to be ashamed of.

    Excuse me.  sick  barf

  8. What did all of our dead soldiers die for?
That Jill Edwards should have taken history courses in high school.
Or don’t they teach history anymore?  Maybe not!
It’s too late now, and she’s loose.

  9. Hey Bob, have you ever met a poodle?  They’re not the foo-foo dogs people think they are.  I use to think so too, until I met my SO, who had one.  Pretty damn neat dogs, and smart!  And they are not “fwench-poohdles”, the breed is originally from Germany.

A moon-bat is the best mascot for UW.  Right at home. cool smirk

  13. I live mere blocks from UW, and I have to say this has bit one good shitstorm for the mah-roons on the Senate and for the UW Admin. They just want it to go away, but it won’t.

I hear the Jill Edwards has apologized, and the Senator who proposed the monument has gotten lots of support, to the point where he is now looking at a monument to not only Pappy but to all FIVE MOH recipients who are UW grads. And, Kirby Wilbur is drumming up support for paying for the monument with private donations so no asshat on campus can say there are no funds for the project. If the plan is approved, he is already in for $1000. In fact a good pal o’ mine who is a “moderate Democrat” is so incensed by the story she is ready to donate $500. Developing…

My own stories related to Pappy are that I helped analyze how the Marines train AV-8 Harrier pilots. One squadron I included in the study was VMA-214 at MCAS Yuma. the training officer, oddly, was in the Italian air force.

The other is that the Boeing Museum of Flight hosted a talk by 3 MOH recipients a few years ago regarding the excellent book “Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty,” by Peter Collier. It told the story of all living MOH holders at that time. One was Jim Swett who flew with Boyington.

He told of a time when the Japs sent a fighter sweep down on Guadalcanal. Swett went to get Boyington but he was so drunk he was totally passed out. I asked Swett what he said to Boyington afterward. He said, “I told him ‘Pappy, don’t ever fly in front of me, you sonofabitch!’ And he didn’t!”

  14. Goose-in answer to your question-
So that molly coddled college students such as in the afore mentioned article can *yap on* in this wonderful country we call the US of A.

Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing- however- at least know what in Gods name you( Jill and Ashley) are speaking of- also known as *educating* yourself to the FACTS,ALL of the FACTS, but then, in this day and age it is so much EASIER to be spoon fed PC mumbo jumbo.

Jill Edwards and Ashley Miller have absolutely NO clue as to what the real cost of the freedoms are that they enjoy in this wonderful country, but then, they don’t have to know in the insulated little worlds they live in. As for Karl Smith- what a little WUSS. Karl - there is NOTHING noble about PCness.

I sincerely hope that the alumni association and other financial contributors/donors invoke a moratorium on the UW.

*reflects poorly on the university* is a mighty understatement.

    Some emailing is in order.

  21. It’s a shame that those idiots have had no exposure to the events of WW2. Especially before the U.S. entered the war. Perhaps they should be assigned an essay on “The Rape of Nanking”, “Pearl Harbor”, “Unit 731"(a secret Japanese human experimentation project), “The Greater Eastern Co-Prosperity Sphere”, “Treatment of Prisoners of War Taken by the Japanese”, etc..

Then there were the Nazi atrocities, as well as what the Russians Soviets did as they reclaimed Eastern Europe.

I doubt that these sociology students have any idea. It is apparent that history is not taught in these “institutions of higher learning” any more. At least, not real history, you know, the fact based stuff.

Posted by StinKerr    United States   02/18/2006  at  06:01 PM

  22. I’m of the opinion that whatever history is being taught these days has become so PC that they have turned the (former) enemy into victims. It’s disgusting!

Posted by StinKerr    United States   02/18/2006  at  06:26 PM

  23. The little twit who made the remarks has been asked to apologize. Here is the resolution (shamelessly ripped off of e-biscuit.com (E-Claire,E-lectronically):

WHEREAS Student Senator Jill Edwards offended all members of the United States Marine Corps, past or present, dead or alive; especially those who were, are, or will be students at the University of Washington with her comment that she “didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.” This commented brought shame and dishonor to not only the UW Student Senate, but also the University as a whole, all its members who have served in the Marine Corps and all Marines past and present.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON:

    THAT

Student Senator Jill Edwards will submit, in writing, a signed apology letter seeking forgiveness to all students, staff, and alumni who are now or ever have served in the United States Marine Corps. In said letter it will contain a formal apology and a recognition that her very rights and freedoms are guaranteed by such members of the armed services, to include the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, past or present, living or dead. Additionally, said letter will be printed in all its form and substance in that day’s edition of the UW Daily newspaper as well as being recited on the UW Radio station. To realize her mistake, she must acquaint herself with the history of the person she is so keen to dismiss, by reading Col. Boyington’s book, Baa, Baa, Black Sheep. All of these requirements are mandatory, under pain of losing her seat on the Student Senate.

Posted by Cheese_tensor    United States   02/18/2006  at  06:32 PM

  24. So the spoiled little bitch has to read a book and write a letter of apology.  Big friggen whoop.

Bullshit.  Serve as an aide in a Vet Hospital for one year.

My lesson in history came from a man who honored my family and I with his presence during a dinner at my home many yeats ago.  He was kind, and brave enough to tell us about his experiences in WWII.  He had a tatoo on his forearm.

By God Allmighty I will NEVER FORGET.

Posted by T    United States   02/18/2006  at  06:56 PM

  25. Oh yes, OCM. I came to realize it when the Smithsonian was going to display the Enola Gay and portray the Japanese as “victims of American aggression and thirst for revenge”!!! Veterans, particularly Air Force Veterans went ape on them strongly objected, and rightfully so. Congress was pulled into the battle as well as the usual PC crowd and Japanese “victim” organizations. It was a mess.

They ignored or didn’t know that the Japanese and Germans were working on atomic weapons and damn sure would have used them. It’s just fortunate for the whole world (including former enemies) that the U.S. got them first. Then there were the items I mention above, and more, all duly ignored.

Perhaps they should ask anyone from the countries invaded by these “victims”: China, Korea, The Phillipines, French Indo China (Vietnam), Burma, etc. They’d get a whole different view.

The second world war really started in 1933 with the Japanese invasion of China. Everything else evolved from that, including the attack on Pearl Harbor. Wanna bet on how many of these students know any of that? Alas, I doubt if you’d find even one who knew.

Anonymous- so very true about Colonel Boyington’s struggle with alcoholism and his truth in living with it…

Keep fighting it Anonymous-I know it must be a true struggle for you- I have you in my prayers !

  31. Anonymous: My advice, not just as a Social Worker: Ask For Help. Get in a ‘program’ and stay there. You don’t like AA? Plenty of others. Good start here, but practice saying to real friends (not drinking buddies) and family members face-to-face, “Please help me.” ‘Ego’** and bullshit is our problem.

** Infantile narcissism, actually. “How many alcoholics/addicts does it take to change a lightbulb? One. They grab the bulb and wait for the earth to revolve around them.”

You are not alone. Go for it, Bro!

Posted by Oink    United States   02/19/2006  at  08:20 PM

  32. Stay the course Anonymous - not only for your son, but for yourself.  Oink hit the nail on the head with the difference between real friends and drinking buddies.  Real friends will help and support you.  The AA program is a great help (although a little boring, I’ve been there), and Al-Anon a great support and help group for freinds and family.  Don’t be afraid to order iced tea or club soda when with folks on the hard stuff; might even make you feel real good about yourself, and that’s what it takes as much as anything.

Good luck, and don’t give in!

Posted by gkern    United States   02/19/2006  at  08:29 PM

  33. Thank you kern.  I apologize for forgetting 3 points:

    1. IT ISN’T YOUR FAULT.  Practice saying that, ”IT ISN’T MY FAULT”.

    2, It isn’t anybody else’s fault either.

    3. It IS your RESPONSIBILITY.  Think of it like diabetes—you didn’t ask for this shit, but only you can take care of your body’s inability to tolerate glucose (ALCOHOL). And, if you have a hyperglycemic attact at the wheel (Drunk Driving), that will be your fault.

    I will pray for you.

  34. Anonymous,( Jim)
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what you felt when you cried shameless tears over that sincerity he wrote in your book...tears are proof that you have heart and are capable of emotion.

Don’t give up! You have fight left in you, and your Son loves you.YOU have to want this for YOU.Practice taking care of you , in the healthiest way possible. Surround yourself with people who truly care about you, but will not enable any weakness you might have in this struggle.

I concur with Oink in his wishes for you- do not ever be afraid of asking for help- we all need it sometimes, for various reasons. There is no shame in that.

I sincerely send my hearfelt wish that when you feel weak, you will find regained strength from within, when you feel alone, that you can find the inner strength to look around and say - hey! I need some help here. You are not alone.

I know all of this is so much easier said than done.

Just please know, I am saying prayers for you Jim, and I mean that sincerely.
