  1. Fire the stupid bitch.

  2. Mrs Patterson, who lives with her daughter in a £250,000 flat in Camberwell two miles from the school, refused to comment.

(note no ‘baby daddy’ in residence)

Gosh, I wish I had a tenured government job that allowed me to own a $412,000 condo. Shit, that’s far more than DOUBLE what this place is worth, nearly triple.

And unless Mrs. P has a lush white beard, the picture couldn’t possibly begin to be about her. I took me less than 30 seconds to source the photograph, and you can clearly see that the little plastic Darwin figurine is white. Ok, he’s got a little tan, so what?

Fire this idiot teacher for being stupid, egocentric, paranoid, and above all, LAZY.

  3. I have contacted the guy who took the pictures that were used on the poster, to see what he has to say. The blog is called Axis of Evo, and the author teaches Evolutionary Biology at Swathmore College in Pennsylvania.

And he writes back ... the Darwin figure was from one play set, and the Angry Mob figures were from another play set. So there could be tonal differences in the plastics used, and even skin color perceptions in the people who made the play sets to begin with. As in, the Darwin set was made in China; what tone would Chinese pick to use for a white guy?

We agreed also that Darwin probably had a great tan while working on the Beagle, but after he got home and hit the books he was probably quite pale.

About 50 other blogs and forums ran with this story, especially the White Pride sites. The other blogs were mainly the Stupid Stuff Liberals Do kind, like BMEWS. Nearly every comment says that this woman is a nut job. A few comments feel that that Villagers With Torches imagery was inappropriate, and can’t figure out why an educator would use that meme. To me it’s totally obvious.

Only one other post linked to the Flickr page, or identified the guy who made the photograph, or mentioned why he did so, and I don’t believe anyone else has bothered to contact him.

Lazy journalists, lazy bloggers. BMEWS does it better.

On commentor does point out that this area in the UK has suffered extreme white flight, the area becoming rather like that rioting neighborhood in Brighton, only “more ethnically diverse”. I can’t speak to that assertion one way or another.

I am not a Darwin scholar, so I can’t tell you Yes or No as to whether he was actually physically confronted by the Mob. But his writings certainly stirred up controversy, so he was metaphorically confronted at least.

  5. Well done Drew.

The figure looked so tan here on my screen, I even blew up the photo to be sure. I thought I detected negroid features but I guess not. Anyway, even if the bearded guy was black, she could have spoken to the volunteer. But no. And they wonder why they are generally unacceptable as a group. Hell, it’s darkies like her that make ppl view them with distaste. If not outright hostility.  Will there ever be a time when the burden is lifted?
