I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if it was done by our own government… just because governments have a tendency to create enemies when their chips are down. Not saying that’s the case, just saying it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it turned out to be an inside job the CIA or another group.

Okay, CMM. What chips were down on 9/10/01? We had troops in the Balkans, which was going largely ignored, especially by the MSM. I can’t think of anything else, offhand. What am I missing? What have I forgotten?
Are you saying that Clinton appointee George Tenet was so grateful for being kept on in the CIA that he hatched a plan in just a few months to give George W. Bush a chance to be Presidential and earn another four year term?

Why would it have to be done from the top? You assume that the buck always stops at the desk of the political appointee. I never said that I think that really is what happened, I just said that if someone proved that it really did happen that way, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Okcay, CMM. What situation were we in at the time that would or could have called for one of our own agencies to have perpetrated such a thing?

What possible reason does any government agency have to try and justify its own existance? Before 9-11, the world seemed to be a really safe place to most Americans and agencies like the CIA were slowly falling apart. It wouldn’t surprise me if a rogue element was involved, even if it was merely allowing the attack to occur. There’s evidence showing that FDR knew about Pearl Harbor, but did not stop it in order to leave the US with no possible way out of joining world war 2.
Again, I’m not saying that it happened. You obviously think that America is some unique country where things cannot go horribly wrong with the government. After Kelo, Raich, the McCain-Feingold case and a host of others, I wonder how you can fail to see a growing trend toward a very, very repressive government in this country. AGAIN, I am not saying that it was an inside job, I’m just saying that the writing on the wall that I see says that our government has very quickly gone down the tubes lately (last 4-5 years) and that we have to be extra careful now.
Of course if you’re one of those people who says, “NEVER IN AMERICA!!!,” about this sort of thing, then I don’t think there’s any point in continuing to discuss this. America is going the way of the Soviet Union, the only difference is that we speak English and not Russian. Our constitutional rights for example, are increasingly worth as much in practice as the constitutional rights of the average Soviet in the Soviet Union’s. Hell they had freedom of speech… just didn’t mean a damn thing if they wanted to be political.
