That just sucks. Banking between countries (well, between the USA and any other country) is a royal pain in the ass. Been through something similar myself.
Why can’t you just do it through on-line banking? I’ve never had to try banking between countries, but those overseas crooks manage to do it illegally. Why can’t you do it legally?
Peiper - you just don’t realize how the ‘banking’ rules have changed - and it sucks so much. I think that is a bit over the top (physically being in the bank for a wire transfer) - we don’t have to do it - of course our bank has only one ‘office’ - the main building in TX - and caters to a group of people who are scattered all over the world (military) and (Thank God) don’t charge us an arm and a leg for the nice things that they do (like call my daughter when someone put $300/in one day on itunes).
I hope that it all gets taken care of. And yes technology is only as good as the people who work it - and in many cases they come off as being more stupid than simple paper makes them to be.
Christopher, Your question “Why can’t you just do it through on-line banking?” is a good one and here’s the answer, it’s the most basic and is one of a few but the better one.
Because the on line page for money transfers REQUIRE a “routing” number.
Banks here have all sorts of numbers that do essentially what that does, but they DO NOT HAVE routing numbers.
Plus which, my American bank says I can’t do a wire transfer unless initiated within my home bank.
Did things another way which will take a week or two longer but okay.
