2. My Saturn is a 1997 SC-2, delivered to me brand new in November 1996. A quarter million miles later, it’s getting a bit tired here and there. The exhaust pipe is THE major bugaboo, and mostly in the past 7 years. I wonder if it’s the ethanol in the gas, creating a higher amount of water vapor in the exhaust. Mufflers, cats, and the pipes just rust away. At this point, all I want is for the thing to make it through the winter.

3. Kinda late now but there are Stainless pipes and mufflers that slow that process down but on the slightly spendy side.  At this point bandaid cheap shit is probably best.
