  1. Christopher,

I had “high-normal” BP most of my life, but about 10-years back I started to get “palpatations” when I got excited. Went to the cardiologist who saw my BP readings and promptly sent me for a Thalium stress test. The test was ok and he put me on BP medication. All went well for a few years, but then about 5-years ago I had some significant events take place in my life and I wound up in the hospital. Now the doc didn’t fool around and i was off for an angiogram. That test showed no blockage but he diagnosed arrythmia of some sort and now I’m on 2-BP meds+Lipitor+anti-anxiety pills.

Grouchy Old Cripple (blog) just got out of the hospital will the same thing cept he had a minor stroke too. High Blood Pressure is nothing to fool with.

  2. Doc says I have anxiety problems. The three times I’ve been to the hospital in the last five years have all been anxiety/panic attacks. I thought I was having heart attacks all three times. The heart has checked out fine. You said you had a Thalium stress test. I assume that’s what they call a chemical stress test. A couple of years ago I did the actual treadmill stress test. The whole 9 minutes while they kept increasing the incline. Passed.

Nothing seems to be wrong with my heart. Anxiety/panic attacks. That’s when my BP goes haywire. I’m normally 120/80. A good workout will result in lower BP. I’ve had readings of 110/70 after a good workout. Weird. You’d think my BP would go up after a workout. My workouts usually involve running/rowing, calisthenics, and weight training.

  3. Chris,

You sound like a carbon copy of me. I forgot to mention in my previous post that i was in the hospital several times with, what I believed, were heart attacks but turned out to be panic attacks. I did 11 miniutes on my stress test when i was 50-years old. But I could only muster 7-minutes 30-seconds when I was 65-years old. Now I’ved developed acid reflux and have a hiatus Hernia which after a heavy meal and a couple of glass of red wine cause me to wake up at 1 or 2 AM with a minor panic attack. It feels like my ticker is giving out, but it’s just the acid backing up. I pop a 5-miligram clonazepam pill and lay sort of sitting up and the feeling goes away shortly. I’m going to be 70 next summer so I can’t expect too much in the way of a cure. Keep those Clonazepam coming doc.

  4. I’m glad that you aren’t dying, yet. Panic attacks suck, but can be brought under control without medication (shh, don’t let Big Pharma know).

  5. Indeed they can be brought under control without medication. Weak people like me need the meds.
