  1. I dusted off The Ole Sackcloth & Ashes this AM.

  2. QUICK OCM! TURN ON Turner Classic Movies—(You Too, Skipper)

They’re playing your favorite movie: “THE SINGING NUN” Starring, (brace yourself)
Debbie Reynolds and Ricardo Montalban -- “From Hell’s heart… I stab at thee!”

It was made in 1966, so I’m sorry it must omit the scene where she & her lesbian lover commit suicide.

  3. I am soooooooooo sick of NO/LA and ‘America’s Challenge’ surprizing that NONE of the other areas hit last year are bellyaching and insisting that Congress come ‘tour the devestation.’ Perhaps if they canned their politicos who are robbing them blind, get up off their assets and pick up a hammer and some nails -

I know it’s not quite that easy but I’ve been hit by the edge of a tornado - I know what it’s like to pick up afterward. I didn’t lose everything - but you know what - it’s just stuff. When you have one of those ‘seconds’ that change the entire life/family/future - man stuff just aint that important any more.

It’s time to get back to living, either rebuild or move on - it’s really easy. All 50 states have welfare, public housing - what’s the problem?? [I know my bias is showing again today, damn - bad week too much death to make me sympathetic to whinners]

  4. Or 60 years if you’re Palestinian.

  5. Actually, you are making my point - it is cement, wood and brick. That is all, a few scraps of fabric and so on. Nothing is forever (if you believe the enviro-wackos, not even the planet) so our ‘mission’/purpose what have you is to TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER. That’s it, form little family groups, share ideas, hopes dreams etc and not get so damn wrapped up in the little boxes we live in.

Perhaps if the family unit weren’t being systematically destroyed in this country (and the world) - we wouldn’t have elderly standing outside their homes, having no idea what to do. As the young (oppressed and un-educated) suicide bomber would be making sure his parents and or grandparents were being fed and watched over in their old age. And the same here, most of the dead were the elderly who were either already abandoned long a ago or who were ignored in the most desperate of times.

People come first - should be always and encouraging whole groups of them to be helpless is not making them first.

What I’m sick of is the over-hype on this particular city. That’s all. It is time to realize that other places were hit by disaster last year and they aren’t over-doing the whine. That’s all. For the people who lost their homes last year to disaster - I feel deep sorrow and wish that everything works out for them quickly. But we must do some of the recovery ourselves.

  6. Yes, you see whole towns eradicated by tornadoes; the people have a good cry over the remains of their homes, then start rebuilding.  N.O. was on a whole different level of complexity—having it blown away would have been an improvement, over a standing lake/cesspool.  People and supplies couldn’t get in or out. No utilities plus a dense population, many of which are elderly/poor.

Three levels of government tripping over each other and shouting accusations set the tone.

  7. Then perhaps we should NOT have three levels of government!

    Might that be the solution????

And I beg to differ - the floods of the Mississippi in ‘94 (I think) were pretty damn bad too. I’m just saying NO wasn’t the only disaster and there are systems in place. Cut the whine and pass the cheese, hammers and get back to business. That’s all.

  8. Only ONE level of Command & Control—in a crisis.

But with most other floods, the water goes away by itself. And the Mississippi flood was widespread, which is bad, but left some space for the cleanup crew to work in. I cannot think of another such US disaster in such a crowded area—and that counts the other communities hit by the same hurricane. But you are correct; there is no problem so big that sitting on your butt pissin’ & moanin’ can’t make it worse.
