  1. Vilmar,
I worked for a large national restaurant chain a few years back.  I supported the Quality Assurance Director, as well as several corporate chefs.

These restaurant chains get a huge amount of calls from people daily regarding food safety.  We got calls about screws, bone chips, teeth (all foreign objects) in the food that was served.  Some of the calls were legitimate, some were people wanting to sue and make a buck.

Restaurants cannot afford to be sued by these nutzo’s so they are dilligent in making sure what they serve is clean and safe.  These measures in handwashing, gloving and covering ones head are not all bad.

I remember a chain similar to ours had a child who died with HUS (e-coli) from eating watermelon that had raw meat juices drip onto the melon in the cooler. Once the watermelon was out on the buffet, the e-coli bred and grew.  No one wants a wrongful death suit, it can collaspe your business.

I won’t eat at a place where the bathrooms are filthy and where there is no soap.  Nor will I eat at a place where they do not glove and take proper care in food safety.  Sorry for the long post, email me if you have any questions.  beerstoyou

  2. Thanks!  I also realize the need to wear that stuff for reasons other than spread of disease but I stil think we are trying to be TOO anti-septic and by reason of that, increase our risk to diseases of all sorts when we drop our guard.

Good example:  go to Mexico and drink the water.  You get Montezuma’s revenge.  The Mexicans don’t have that problem yet their life expectancy is pretty close to ours.

  3. Whan I was growing up people washed their freaking hands after going to the bathroom and often during the day just because. I still do it .. just because that was the way I was raised. I also bathe at least once a day whether I need it or not and I keep my kitchen counter tops cleaned and spotless.

Nowadays, I’m almost afraid to shake hands with ANYONE. Whatever happened to “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”? Oops! I forgot. We’re supposed to be a Godless society nowadays. Never mind.

  4. Finally got the registration thing figgered out.

    Anyway, my humble opinion.
With the prevolence of people throwing a pill down their throat for every little ailment, not only are we making ourselves weaker for fending off attacks, but we’re making the bad critters stronger.  We unwittingly created whole new strains of mutated viruses able to withstand any attack we hit them with.  So in a sense, yes.  We do have to be more careful

But, the biggest issue I have with gloves is the people wearing them are so used to using gloves for self protection, they don’t use them properly.
Most of the time, it’s a subconscious thing.  You’ve gotten used to gloves protecting your hands, so that’s sort of how the mind continues to tick.  But if you’re going to wear them to protect others, you need to change them once in a while.

You don’t put gloves on, make a sandwich, then (insert next task here)
    A- count my change
    B- clean the toilet
    C- wash off the counter
    D- scratch your zit
    then make another sandwich.
Personally, I would rather see the gloves go away and enforce hand washing a little closer.
