  4. Christopher ... ??

You’ll have to forgive my slowness but ... huh?

    I don’t understand.

The Skipper? Where does he come into my post about my late uncle?

  5. Rich, Yes. We saw the story in our local paper some days ago. I was tempted to post the article and changed my mind because I was reminded that there could be more to that story then is printed. For example .... there could have been enough wrong with her that an operation could not be done at times scheduled. Do I know for sure?  No.

The late MIL once broke her hip in a fall, was taken to hosp. for surgery BUT ...
it was some weeks before they could operate due to several other things going on. She also had a bad chest infection she brought with her, they needed to clear that before any surgery. An irregular heart beat, she may have had pneumonia too. Or maybe that last was another time as I know she had it during her illness.
She also had that MRSA thing and I might have the initials wrong but it’s another infection of some kind. She had a number of things wrong with her that delayed her surgery.
Of course, she was in the hosp. all that time where this unfortunate woman was not.
There are lots of serious problem with the NHS here, but it also is not quite as bad as it’s made out to be in our (American) press. And often things very much depend on where you live. Which ain’t a good thing I grant you. It should be uniformly good everywhere in an ideal world.

So, could there have been problems with this woman too?  I don’t know.

  6. Peiper - sorry about your Uncle.

I have many relatives like that - being the youngest who fled home early to get some sort of personal identity (and a girl child) I remained a child in many a relative’s mind. My favorite Aunt passed away while I was out wandering around Germany (2nd Time) - I have kept every Christmas card she sent - as she sketched them all - lovely little cards. She was a horse person too - so we had that in common. She tried to teach me to golf one summer - I remember it clearly - I never heard - Man you have a nasty slice so many times since!

Life gets in the way - but since the 60s it seems to have sped up - we no longer grow up with our Grandparents, Aunts & Uncles (and thus cousins) surrounding us - as I did. My kids barely know any of their cousins. It is a shame.
