When the European colonialists divided Africa into colonies, they paid no attention to the tribes and nationalities involved. That would be like an outsider forcing the US and Mexico into one country. What the hell, they’re all black, they won’t care, right?
Other continents aren’t doing so hot managing their governments and minorities either.
That being said, colonialism was a long, long time ago. Time to grow up.
I think that the problem lies squarely with the mentality of most of the inhabitants of Africa:
From what I can gather, most Africans still adhere to traditions that are steeped in superstition. Therefore, many of them are in constant fear of displeasing the dead; they also adopt a host of asinine beliefs--like the notion that a man can cure himself of AIDS by having sex with a virgin girl; or how about the practice of ceremonial mutilation of their children?
Such foolish beliefs have slowed the progress of the entire continent. Worse yet, many of these practices are directly responsible for the deaths of millions of people.
In my opinion, my “brethren” in Africa better get their shit together in a hurry: otherwise, Vilmar’s right--before too long, we’re going to have a whole unpopulated continent to take over.
Same thing can be said about most of the blacks in our country. Although many of us are trying to make better lives for ourselves and our families, many of them would rather mope around and bitch about how they’re being mistreated by the white man. What a crock! Of course, that’s a whole ‘nother topic…
Colonialism was a long time ago? Time to grow up? Yes, and everyone knows it except those who actually need the advice. And it would appear that little can be done about them. They will invariably choose to go to hell in their own tried and true Miltonesque way: “Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven...”
So be it.
Cat: No one will EVER hold me responsible for the sins of my fathers. This is NOT Qo’noS!
DaGeneral - Welcome, you have taken a lot punch out of my fire. “From what I can gather, most Africans still adhere to traditions that are steeped in superstition. I will confess a certain philosophical longing for the Victorian Era....
