I seem to recall that the occupying Germans had a “scorched earth” policy often, destroying towns they retreated from. I couldn’t say how many mass-grave stories I’ve read over the years; it was very common to exact tremendous retribution on the civilians for the slightest act of resistance. Like 100 to 1, or 1000 to 1.
Not to mention that the Socialist flavored Resistance was usually at war with the Communist flavored Resistance, killing each other when they had the chance.
Yes, towns got destroyed and many civilians got killed. Same thing happened in England, Russia, Germany, Italy ... everywhere. Somehow this “Word War” (get it? All over the entire world, right?) wasn’t simply restricted to Battlefield #1 and Battlefield #2. Gosh, that sure would have been a lot cleaner, right?
So it was pretty much ... the Krauts would occupy a town, we’d bomb it and shell it to drive them out, house to house fighting would get rid of the last of them and bust the town up even more, and then when our guys occupied the town the Krauts would shell it and bomb it if they could. Duh, damn near all of Continental Europe was reduced to rubble.
Civilians got out and became refugees when they could, but the pace of that war - anybody remember what BLITZKREIG means?? - was such that often there was no time for them to evacuate. Not to mention their usefulness as politically expedient human shields.
Pretty funny that these modern day revisionists really have NO IDEA AT ALL what real war is like. Actually, hooray for the R, W, & B that they don’t; it took the Americans clearing out the Nazis to break the never ending once-per-generation war that had devoured Europe since the Middle Ages or earlier. Not even WWI was enough to break that cycle; 21 years later they were at it again. These complainers who see the past only through a rose colored mirror are part of the Baby Boomers,the first generation in all of European history that has never known war and all it’s horrors RIGHT IN THEIR OWN BACKYARDS.
The rest of what he writes, eg talking with hookers, is pure crap. Daydream time.
Been to la havre. Terrible battle. English, tho, not Yanks. Germans decided to dig in and hold and not declare an open city. Had to do what you had to do to get them out. If there were only 10 dead krauts, that woiuld be a miracle. No, it is a lie or else they evaced the dead. Yes, lots of French died in the run up to Normandy. But ask them if they’d have preferred the tender mercies of the Bosch. No. But, haters gonna hate.
Reading those trwo paragraphs I feel it is a crock! Ive been to normandy and there is great affection still for the brits and yanks! as for 10 german bodies? what a load of balls! and who pray rebuilt the french shithole? and aare not the English the only ones to pay back the war loans? Was Dresden better of? comie shit if you ask me!

Don’t know bout the Brits, but Finland paid off their war debt. $500,000, paid with a specially printed US bill that is on display at the US Treasury building. can probably see it on line.
And yes, bullocks on 10 dead krauts. You’d have to be willfully dismissing facts, logic, and reason to believe that after the horror of the siege of la Havre.
"bark off” - suppose to stop dogs barking fairly well. It is one of those ‘seen on tv’ - which I’ve had terrible luck with. However we have a neighbor with 3 dogs in their back yard - the un-neutered male is particularly annoying. We just haven’t had the money to buy it.
I wonder why there is this sudden interest in re-writing the GI Joes of WWII? Is there a significant milestone about to happen that I’m not aware of, that the liberals need to ‘dumb down’ the people of what really happened? Of course for liberals who live in the land of ‘if people just do what I say, life will be perfect’ without the realization that historically every attempt at utopia, equality and socialism has failed - the fact that they can’t understand war and are willing to re-write history - shows how damn stupid and insane they are.
