  1. I’ve read both our invasion plan and the Japanese defense plans. It would have been horrific. They were going to use poison gas and kamakazi speed boats against us and the entire Japanese civilian population would have been armed with melee weapons to fight. The purple heart medals we bought for the first part of the invasion lasted us through Vietnam.

  2. August 14:  Made possible by the willingness to invoke the horror on August 6, and August 9, and to be just as willing to take off the mantle of war once it was all over, and become peacemakers and rebuilders.

  3. To all Veterans.

Thank You for your Service to our Country and Welcome Home.

My Father was on the USS Laws in the Pacific when this happened.

In his Memoirs he writes about when his ship heard the news of “Truman’s Decision”.

Everyone on board Cheered, Because they knew they would soon be going Home.

  4. Fitting, I suppose, that with the ascendency of new threats to the Pacific and the West, that we celebrate the vanquishing of one. Sometimes, the good guys do win.

I can only hope that will remain true in the days to come.
