Damnation. I just effin’ give up. The frickin’ “soil” is solid damn shale. It is as if the builders just dumped a truckful there and then pushed some dirt over it. 3 wheelbarrow loads full screened down to less than 1 plastic bin of actual dirt.
Am I defeated? Hell no. Instead of digging down, I’m going to mound up. I’ll overfill the bed by a couple inches after planting, and that ought to be good enough. It’ll probably settle flat after a season or two anyway.
