Gaddafi may have been a filthy rat bastard and hardly trustworthy but, he kept the lid mostly down and hate him as we did, I just wonder what we traded him in for. ???
Then we deserted Mubarak who did manage things but again. We had to support the civilians.
And now in Syria there’s civilians in harms way and we’ll be there before long. Hell, the French already are in small ops. They want Assad gone. Hmmmm, I recall they also wanted Gaddafi gone.

Peiper - go back to 1979, when the Shah of Iran was overthrown. Look at what Iran has become today. Now fast-forward a few years and look at Egypt, Libya, Syria, etc. Wanna venture a guess as to what they’ll become?
We should just nuke them all now, before it’s too late.
Well its good to see some of us dont have blinkers on! but im sure we have better ways of dealing with this infestation than nukes!

We’ve tried letting them be. Result: Iran is on the threshold of developing nukes of their own.
We’ve tried conventional (more or less) military intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan. Result: no joy.
We’ve tried benign intervention in Libya. Result: 4 dead Americans and a trashed embassy.
We’ve tried benign non-intervention in Egypt. Result: trashed embassy.
We’ve tried scolding them in Syria. Result: no joy - and there is reason to believe that there are chemical and/or biological weapons in Syria at risk.
So what should we do?
Believe me, I’m not some foaming-at-the-mouth right-wing whack job. I’m all for live and let live. But IMO it’s reached the point where they won’t leave us alone, no matter what we do. And they now have, or are getting very close to having, weapons of mass destruction. They obviously have no compunctions about killing civilians, including women and children.
I agree, it’s like burning down the barn to get rid of the rats. But when the rats are out of control, spreading disease far and wide, and can’t be contained by cats or traps, perhaps burning down the barn is the only option left.
So I repeat: what should we do?
why isn’t Benghazi a smoldering ruin?

No Chris - I disagree - as I sat and watch what was happening on September 11, 2001, my first thought was ‘nuke ‘em till they glow’ - Imagine where we would be now, if that had happened.
The last time I was in Germany (left in 1989) - a friend’s German wife was very outspoken about ‘them’ - I thought she was racist but now I see, her fear of what the Turkish muslims is about what I think about the criminal illegal invaders from our south - and are doing the exact same things.
Read the posts Peiper posts daily about the insane, niggly little ‘nudges’ (as Cass Sunstein calls it) that the muslims are making in country after country after country - no longer is it assimilate or go home - but it’s take over bit by bit by bit. (Which we are getting here in the US with the criminal illegal invaders and in some areas of the US - the muslims).
These are criminal, violent and barbaric peoples who have no intention of making any country into a better place, nor are they seeking the freedom and desire to improve themselves - they are funneling money into cartels or terrorist organizations and are the foundation stepping stones to the destruction of civilization.
The liberals are currently dictatorial tyrants in training who either see these two criminal illegal invader groups as their thugs and ‘crowd control’ - who they will control when they manage to create their OneGlowBallWorld of peace, love and full control - they are so misguided and stupid - it is beyond belief. Their ideas have failed repeatedly over generations and they only need to look at Africa or the Middle East to see exactly what generations of power mad tyrants do to a populations of people. There is no wealth generated that isn’t kept in only a few hands, there is no progress, there is no equality, there is no civilization. And there is no peace.
A ‘religion’ that skins a child to control the local populace (Tal-i-ban in Afghanistan this past week) can not ever claim to be a ‘religion of peace’ - they are as barbaric and sub-human (I love animals and do not see them as violent and evil as these bunches of ‘humans’ are, so I will not insult animals by calling these evil people - animals) - as the drug cartels that do the same damn things.
We need to use our power, our might and our money to wipe this evil from the earth - we did it once - we need to do it again.
Wanting to destroy the drug cartels (both in Mexico and Afghanistan) would seem to benefit America directly - instead this present Administration only seems bent on helping them. It disgusts me that the border is not closed, every single government form is not in English and English only, that people who refuse or can’t assimilate aren’t at the fringe of our society, that criminal illegal invaders get a plug nickel of social benefits and aren’t simply run out of town, and that the TSA/DHS seem more bent on harassing American citizens than in protecting us from those whose intention are to destroy America. And that’s just things that that can be done here in America. Start by cutting off foreign aid to Mexico, and all the enablers in the Middle East - give it all to Israel - and watch the ‘reaction’ to that!
