  1. Funny how the journalists are in the front ranks of the violent protesters.

I remember the campus protests and riots back in the sixties. As a small child I figured out that the protests were mostly peaceful until the TV media arrived, then they became violent. Makes you wonder, don’t it?

Off topic, I think the Lexan round police shield pictured, a targe, makes sense only as light defensive armament. That picture doesn’t give me much faith that the officers are trained in it’s use though.  The cop in the picture, turning his cheek and not raising his shield to avoid that blow, is just plain stupid. Or perhaps they were given an ROE that said that raising shields would be seen as an offensive defensive act. PC, but also stupid. They might be better off with a modern scutum to hide behind, though if I were a UK bobby and issued one of those I’d be asking for a gladius as well. At least the scutum is big enough to be used for crowd control, and the flying squad can always form a defensive turtle if necessary.

Give the anti-riot scutum design contract to me. I’d build them with several slightly raised metal bosses on them, each of which has a major stun gun built in with a contact switch.
