  1. Second the motion!  Unqualifiedly!  I tackled Atlas Shrugged in the sixth grade, when one of my sisters brought a copy home from college (this was the early 1960’s, when some schools still taught kids how to read grin).  Since then, I have been through the book at least a dozen times, and I dug into Ayn Rand’s other books as soon as I got off to college myself and finally got within reach of a bookstore.  I would have to rate them as the most important group of books I ever read.  As a philosophical foundation for free folk, Ayn Rand’s works cannot be equaled, or even approached.

  2. I also enjoyed Atlas Shrugged, but I found The Fountainhead to be more influential for me.  Also, check-out some of the “smaller” books (both the above-mentioned novels are 1000+ page behemoths) such as The Romantic Manifesto, an essay-type book that outlines the philosophy of Objectivism.

  3. I have read Atlas Shrugged many times, but I have never made it through John Galt’s rant. I always get a little ways in then skip over it.
Does that make me a bad person?

  4. Anachrinda: for that stunning admission you will rot in hell! hahahahahahaha!  grin

I’ll see you soon as there are parts of the book I skipped over, too.

  5. You guys are cheating yourselves if you haven’t closely studied John Galt’s radio address.  Skipping it is like throwing away gold nuggets that you’ve panned out of a stream.

  6. Ya right.  Everybody want’s to talk about the Rand non-profit profound work in health care, sick.  If I am correct, which I usually am, I called the “Non-Profit” Rand in PA and talked to their own benefit director for their employees.  She said, “When an employee get’s too sick to work we as well put them to a short COBRA for insurance termination.” Then she said, “Hey I’m done answerin’ your questions.”

So I said, “Fine but answer me this one before I hang up, “Are you licensed to sell insurance to all your uninformed employees?” She said, “NO, I don’t think anybody is licensed here.”

So I laughed and said, “SO basically we have unlicensed fruitcakes selling insurance to poor uninformed employees without Full and Proper Disclosure, is that how you see it?” She said, “I’m not going to answer that.”

Hey look at what that goofy Non-Profit is doing to their own employees.  The President’s health plans are vastly superior than anything those goofballs could come up with, those Socialists.

Sorry Allan if they have given you sooo much strength, those left-wing-fruitcakes.

  7. Shame on all of you. John Galt’s radio address is the culminating moment of the book. Read it in its entirety .. NOW!

Z Woof, take your meds and relax. They are absolutely not “left-wing fruitcakes”.

  8. I also recommend the text of the speech she gave at the West Point Military Academy to the graduating class in 1971(?). I have read several of her books, and enjoyed your reminder.
