  1. I wish I had pics to toss your way Peiper. A local retired freind of mine(county sheriff)recently completed one of his retirement projects,A full scale replica of a 1950s texaco gas staion on his property close to the entrance to his home in the hills above the columbia gorge ( That big river here between OR and WA).You cant see it from the highway ( green folks would have a fit if you could) but its amazing in its detail. And now he’s restoring some old 50’s era cars to dot the place.I wish I had his energy.

  2. Energy Rich?  I wish I had that kind of talent. Or maybe not as I’d be even harder to live with. Have to admire talent in ppl who can create like that.  I always felt myself lucky in one way, to work with so many.  But what a headache they could be at the same time. There were exceptions of course. There always are.

  3. Ya,and actually that olds model in the top pic you posted,Well he’s restoring an actual 56 olds convertible as his first drivable toy. A car he bought from my other buddy who has over 45 60s muscle cars gathering dust in a large out building he erected about 12 years ago. And for the boat lovers here my oldest friend( just turned 70) is in the midst of restoring and updating a 1964 35ft chris craft cabin cruiser as his retirement gift to himself and his wife. These guys make me feel like a piece of chum sometimes with all the stuff they do but Im just glad to know them so well.

  4. I’m sorry, but 45 60’s era cars collecting dust in a garage?? That’s a shame.. Things like that should be driven or put on display for others to enjoy..

    Just an opinion

  5. Wow that first car brings back memories - back in the day - we had cars (a few well made ones) that went through family members (i.e. passed down, like clothes) there was a 56 or 58 Chevy - that lite blue color - that looked so similar to the first picture. I just remember as a kid how damn heavy those doors were, that ended it’s life with my cousin. And then a TR7 that ran through the sisters but never got down to me, rusted out in MA.

I wish we were back to those cars - simple - any kid with a wrench could keep ‘em going and tough as nails. Ah to dare to dream.

There is a guy in IN who has a bunch of real tanks that he has rebuilt (I believe one of his was used in the movie Tank).

These are the people who use their time and energy to remind us of our history.

I will be in IN on Saturday - the s-i-l got free tickets to the Playoff Game as they will be part of the half-time show - Must tape to see if I can see them (daughter and sil) - pass good thoughts as I will be wrangling three boys (9, 5, 1) for the day and night, alone. I did warn her that I would be bringing duct tape!

  6. That’s some amazing model work there… I thought they were photos at first also… (well, they *are* photos, right? photos of models wink )
What wows me is the paint work on the cars. They have the right amount of glossiness without giving away the scale or looking like plastic. Great work on lighting & photographing the scene too. Depth-of-field and shadows are perfect.
