  1. This reminds me of the journalists (and other self-anointed “intellectuals") who used to visit Stalin’s USSR in the 1930’s.  They had famines on one side and mass purges on the other, and still came back here singing Stalin’s praises and denigrating our own society.

Stoopid People indeed, then and now.  Devil knows what a pity!
    cool smirk

  2. From ScrappleFace
Chinese Daily-Washington Post Merger Boosts Credibility
(2005-03-14)—The People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese communist dictatorship, announced today that it would merge with the Washington Post, to publish “an accurate newspaper of global significance called The Wa-Po Daily.”
Washington Post Managing Editor Philip Bennett will oversee news-gathering operations for The Wa-Po Daily, under the guidance of “an unnamed committee of Chinese truth advocates.”
The first hints of the media marriage emerged from an interview Mr. Bennett granted to People’s Daily correspondent Yong Tang, in which the veteran American newsman drew no moral distinction between the Chinese and American expressions of democracy and accused the Bush administration of lying and limiting freedom of the press.
Mr. Bennett said his job is to hold the U.S. government accountable, but that the Chinese government shouldn’t be “completely open just because American journalists want them to become more open.”
An unnamed spokesman for the People’s Daily said, “The Bennett interview convinced us of the obvious synergies between our organizations.”
The Wa-Po Daily will use the same editorial staff and policies as the old Washington Post.
“However,” Mr. Bennett said, “the association with The People’s Daily, one of the world’s most influential media operations, offers enhanced credibility to all of us and an expanded market for our brand of truth-telling news.”

  3. Oh, boy—this post (as others related to Dashing Dan Blather, and all the rest of them) has struck a nerve—because I mySELF am a journalist.

Try being conservative in that milieu!

As an assistant editor at a small-town newspaper, it’s my job to edit the AP wire copy that goes on our national/business/state pages—and, because I’m one of the few left that actually believes in the mission of objectivity, I find myself either deleting or changing a LOT of words. I can’t count the number of ledes that begin like this, for example: “In a crushing blow to President Bush’s quest toward the implementation of X policy, .....” and more drivel like that. Eventually the lede says “The Senate voted against Bill 1234.” Period.

It’s almost worse for me, having to sit in the catbird’s seat, as it were, watching the MSM blithely shovel this c**p down people’s throats, and, in a sense, being a party to it myself.

But you know what? The evolution of the blogosphere is what’s going to change things—it’s already happening. Look what happened to Rather, Jordan and so on—these emperors simply can’t convince people they don’t have any clothes anymore.

It’s not happening quick enough for my liking, but it IS happening, and fascinating to watch. And, of course, it’s eventually going to mean the end of my job—but hopefully I’ll be sitting around in pajamas by then *S*

Ha ha! That Scrappleface bit was a hoot *S* (As are all of their stuff! Also Iowahawk’s *S*)

  4. One difference, birthday boy:  we ADMIT our bias.  The fucking media does not.

  5. First off, OCM, many happy returns of the day—and as yet another handsome guy on this site (Vilmar and Allan are attracting ‘em like magnets! *S*)—

OT, but I think I’d better send my own picture in to use as an avatar—much as I worship Mr. Spock, it’s a bit too much gender-bending to keep on borrowing his persona, *S* --

Anyway—the ~editing~ I do is to remove connotations from the language involved, such that ONLY the facts—i.e., the Senate passed Bill 1234—remain, stripped of that “Crushing blow to President Bush” stuff. I NEVER add language. I might change “claimed” to “asserted” (more neutral) here and there, things like that—but the point is, the facts should be presented as facts, on their own.

And, yes, the blogosphere posts along mostly partisan lines—but if, say, a lefty blogger could prove something beyond doubt, we’d ALL have to see it as fact, and it’s my belief that facts have a way of asserting themselves really quickly nowadays.

    The blogosphere’s still in its infancy—but it’s working—and I love it :o)

  6. OCM: Actually, the FBI and the DoD do have my mug shots and fingerprints on file. It is required for a Top Secret clearance. That’s also why I cannot and would not partake of your weed .

And those pics you see here are me in all my handsome, dashing, suave glory. You should be so good looking, birthday boy!

    LOL  LOL

  7. Yankette:  T’Pau was a great Vulcan female.

OLDCATMAN looks much more degenerate than his picture indicates.

I (and some of the wiser but silent others) suspect that Allan is dead and Vilmar just PhotoShops his picture from “The Captain” in Gilligan’s Island.

Even with the Grecian Formula, Vilmar looks much older than his picture.  Also he’s missing several fingers and toes (and God-knows-what-else) from his excellent Antarctic adventures.

Mine is fairly accurate. It’s shot from the front so as not to brag.

I probably get in deep shit more than the next six members of this blog.

  8. And, yes, they have mine, too.  I still remember those long conversations with the guy from DIA and the phone calls from friends asking what was going on that they were getting phone calls from an “investigative” agency of the USG.

Yes, I still got my TS-SBI.  Amazing!

As for the photo--with it in your hands there would be no doubt if I walked into the room. What you see is what you get---and I am the younger and therefore more swayve and deboner (or is that suave and debonair) of the two.

  9. LIES, LIES, all LIES, I tells ya!

I am the handsome one of the pair. We use pictures of Vilmar to scare roaches out of Command Center.

I hear ya, Vilmar on the digging into our past. It was quite embaressing. Several family members wanted to know which federal prison I was currently residing in (smart-asses!).

  10. Well, they turned on each other and ignored me!  Reminds me of Frodo and Sam with the Orcs of Mordor.

How could I have forgotten AnnoyingLittleTwerp? (Barb) She’s actually, despite her avatar, a hottie. Also the has fighting spirit. I was cursed by fate and born decades too late. The Jody Call was named for her.

The girl I marry has gotta be
    Marine Corps Recon, UDT!

  11. Oink, you are not being ignored. We are even now debating whether to utilize the “nucular option” on your ass.

  12. You heard Allan?  That’s fighting spirit!  The last time they changed my avatar to Michael Moore.  Totally uncalled for. But it showed fighting spirit.

I would give an example of a wimp-ass pacificist peace-puke elderly wannabe hippie doper.  But I won’t CAUSE IT’S HIS BIRTHDAY! Also, anyone who likes cats can’t be all bad. (and he’s my #1 Bitch)

  13. Jeezuz OCM, get it right!

You have to embellish and plagiarize.

  14. Gentlemen, GEN-tlemen, *S*

Alas, oink, your picture does NOT inspire me to add you to the roster of BMEWS hotties ... perhaps a bit (more) of surgery *S*

    And you’re right about T’Pau!

  15. Oink, it won’t be long before the comments start coming in like, “what’s that running down your chin?”

Ohhhh......yeah, pun intended on the “start coming in” line.

Ohhhh.......guess I started it, eh?  LOL
